Yeah, how can you tell? Is this GSM fix for 2003, 2002, or both? How can we get it?

Anyone else have experience with this fix? Gryphon? Slacker?

QUOTE (PanamaMike @ Apr 15 2005, 05:54 AM)
Any way to know if you have the GSM fix installed?

Not many people can afford $400+ for the mpx220 though........... basically same phone (after 2003 free upgrade) without bluetooth or a camera which most people wont use anyway.
FYI: Use a motorola genuine OEM 860mah battery and you'll never have problems with the battery life, found out after 3 mxp200's with a 900mah, 750mah generic batteries.

Hey,

How's that battery switch treating you after all this time?

Also, how can I tell if my battery is motorola's or not? The battery I have came from ebay and it doesn't say whether its 860mah or not.

What is the difference b/n these two?

What does system backup include?

What does personal data backup include?

When I flashed to 2003, I first charged the phone fully like we're supposed to. I'm trying to figure out why my battery life is short (<1 day). My first guess is that it is because the first time the phone booted up after flashing, I didn't have the phone plugged into the computer. It booted up for about 30 minutes, and all that time it was not plugged in. Also, that whole time that it was powering up, I could see that the screen was on even though the phone was closed. So, what I'm trying to figure out is if I Should have powered the phone up with it connected to a power source?

I upgraded a few days ago but only noticed this digital signature requirement today.

The previous days it would just ask if I wanted to run the program anyway, but now another screen comes up after I hit okay which tells me that I cannot run the softwear b/c its unrecognized.

Originally my phone (bought off ebay) was not application locked (it had been flashed with some generic rom)

What can I do about this?

I got my pop3 email to work via the normal inbox on my mpx 200 with Windows 2003

But.. I can't figure out how to get WAP to work - it always says can't connect or something like that.

Also, out of curiosity, what are the proxy settings and the gprs settings used for individually. For example, is proxy used for the internet, and GPRS used for email, or is it not as simple as that?

Thanks

So,

I'm trying to find a broswer for smartphone that'll display the pages so as to fill only one screen's width? Any tips?

Update:
I just finished browsing IntellySinc's site. What I understood while there is that:

- Intellysinc supports WM02 smartphones (but this might or might not be a problem, I'll download a trial and check).

- Intellysinc supports a variety of translators that allow (well, this is what I understood), to sync a Wm smartphone with Outlook, Lotus Notes or Palm Desktop.

Tonight I'll give it a try...will post results asap.
*

Hi,

Just wondering if this intellisync offers any other advantages vs active sync in terms of being able to pick and choose what to sync, etc...

You can use Echo Voice Recorder. Works good. 5hrs recording on 32Mb SD
*

Yep, Echo can do it. And it works well too - loud and clear - i don't think it beeps either, so nobody will know if you are recording them.

I never tried recording a call myself, but one day when I was using the recorder an incoming call came in while Echo was recording. Later I realized that Echo had done a great job accidentally recording the call.

FYI: Echo does a much better job recording calls than recording lectures.

Socket Communications releases new version of Pocket PC drivers for SDIO Wi-Fi cards - with major Wi-Fi improvements
February 26, 2005 [Wireless (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ...)]
Nowadays several brilliant Pocket PC phones (like i-mate JAM or T-Mobile MDA Compact) are equipped with Bluetooth and allow for use of cheap Blueooth LAN access points, however if you are outdoors Wi-Fi is not only better but sometimes it is the only way to access Internet without the use of cellular networks! In such cases - if you have Pocket PC phone with Bluetooth but without Wi-Fi - not everything is lost: you can buy one of many SDIO Wi-Fi cards and get immediate access to Internet through hot spots...

Socket WLAN Tools Mobile Edition v2 software utility for Windows Mobile 2003 allows you to view connection status, monitor available networks and troubleshoot connection issues – a $25 software value that works exclusively with Socket CF and SDIO WLAN Cards.
Intuitive and easy-to-use graphical interface
Quickly see connection status and Internet availability
Find WiFi Networks - View all available WLANs with signal strength, security enabled/disabled, channel and AP MAC address
Ping an IP address or URL a few times or continuously
Trace route shows how your Pocket PC connects to an Internet site
For more information click here or go directly to download page here.

Interestingly several companies offering wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) hot spots are even formatting access pages especially for Pocket PC:

... so usage of Wi-Fi with Pocket PC PDA and Pocket PC phone devices is indeed very comfortable...

Is this for win 2003 or 2002?

Also, how much does it cost?

No luck. Same problem.

FYI - Hard reset followed by a sprite restore does not restore regional settings or profile settings "exactly". It does retain the names of your profiles, but not their settings. I almost had an incident today with the phone going off b/c I thought my profile settings were restored exactly as they were when the phone was backed up.
Also, the start menu is not perfectly retained. Seems that some standard links were back in my startup after having deleted them long ago.

Looks like I'm going to have to do a hard reset without a sprite restore to get email/internet access. Maybe its time for 2003...

So then, there is no point in doing a hard reset and then following the up with a sprite backup restore, right. The backup would just cancel out everything that the hard reset does, right?

The information that is in the FAQ is what you need in the Connections.  You are experiencing a unique problem that I too have incountered, and can't explain why.  I have seen something similiar when I first connected my phone to my military computer at work, I got 2 sets of numbers like that under proxy settings, but it did not affect my other connections at all.  I think it has something to do with your computer.  One thing that you can try is to clear everything out, start from scratch on your data settings, and I mean to Delete your settings not just clear the fields.  If you get that again, then clear that one field and type in "The Internet" for conntects to.  Make sure that you do it once the field is selected, if you move off of it you will no longer be able to edit it until you power cycle your phone.  Give those things a try and let us know how it goes...

Sorry about that. I'm replying to the above post, specifically the bolded part.

I tried deleting settings just like you said, and even after they were totally deleted, when I tried adding a new connection setting, it still wouldn't let me change the "connects to" box.

So, I'm thinking about Hard reset. Will hard reset unflash my phone? I don't care about MMS or photo applications, but will it unflash everything else?

Thanks

I need to do a hard reset.

I am happy that it will not have the camera programs and MMS when the hard reset is done.

I have read that this restores the phone to the original factory settings.

Does this mean that it undoes the generic ROM flash? Will I have to reflash or can I then use sprite?

What does this mean for me in terms of the phone's settings, and programs that have been installed?

Will I have to reinstall them?

Talked to Tmobile people for over an hour (I should know better by now) with no results except that I should call Motorola. Figures...

Gryphon, Can you be a little more clear about what you remember about this problem?

I'd rather not hard reset b/c my MPX is just the way I want it right now and is flashed with a good ROM that I wouldn't want to lose.

Thanks

I downloaded trials of Echo Voice Recorder and John Cody's Voice Notes

For my situation I like Echo much more, mainly because echo seems to be able to record while being in the background, whereas John Cody's voice notes uses the existing smartphone voice recorder and therefore is unable to continue to record if it does not remain at the forefront of all other applications.

There are some minor issues I'm having with Echo though, after using the trial version briefly.

1) I can't find a way to turn the program off - there is no "exit" button. When I try to have the program shut down via X-bar, that doesn't work either. This might be a trial version problem, as it seems that this should be a very basic feature.

2) When a recorded file is highlited, if I temporarily go to my phone's home screen, and then bring up the X-bar program to switch back to the Echo recorder, switching back to Echo recorder will cause Echo recorder to automatically play whatever file was highlighted.

The opposite will happen if a recorded file is playing and then I go to the phone's homescreen. Using Task bar to then bring up Echo will cause Echo to STOP playing the recorded file that was playing in the background.

Its a major problem for me though because I can't afford to be in a meeting and then all of a sudden have echo voice recorder start accidentally playing one of my recordings.

Other than that I really like the product

Any suggestions?

Hey, It Worked!!!

I thought it didn't work for a while, but after restarting my phone, my inbox was working normally for the first time in months.

Also, got a lot more free memory - at least 1 Mb more - and the phone is running much faster!!!

Highly recommend this to anyone that doesn't use MMS much.

Downloaded the trial version -works just fine while in the background.

I think the demo version of Echo is the one that only allows you to record for 15 minutes. After that, it only allows 10 second recordings, until you activate it, after which point I'd assume you'd be able to record indefinitely.

This thing has 3 Major pluses

1. Records to the storage card
2. Records uninterupted regardless of what the screen is displaying
3. Allows you to continue recording where you left off
