_ Motorola MPx200 _ mpx 200 and bluetooth and wi-fi sdio card.

Posted by: maxmotta

hi everybody...is there anyone how can tell me if there are supported any
wi-fi and bluetoth sdio card on motorola mpx200???
thanks to all...

Posted by: Luzerman

Nope, as of right now and probably forever the MPx200 does not support any SDIO cards. The slot is not listed as an SDIO slot and as far as I know there are no bluetooth or wifi card drivers for any smartphone device and if someone were to write them they would probably be for the 2k3 platform and not 2k2.

Posted by: Anonymous

i heard different, in this forum as well, that the slot is SDIO...

Posted by: Luzerman

There is debate over whether the slot is indeed SDIO but Motorola just didn't pay the license fee so they can't list it as SDIO. Officially it is not an SDIO slot. The existence of a camera that uses the slot tends to indicate that it is an SDIO slot but Motorola could have always come up with a proprietary solution.

According to the project manager at ATT, this phone is SDIO capable but no SD device on the market is smartphone capable yet.

And according to the project manager at Microsoft, the phone is not SDIO capable. smile.gif

It's all moot until there are drivers anyway.

Posted by: BariSaege

Is it so difficult to create a driver?

Posted by: RandyRants

I reckon, as no one has yet. Odds are that it took so long to get the SP2002 out the door (collectively, about 3 years from the first time I heard about Stinger) that they planned to wait until it was on the street before working on it... and since it hit the streets after SP2003 was announced (which I think ships with SDIO Now! and will make drivers easier) devs are probably waiting until 2003 ships in Q1/2003. That way they are on the newer bits and only lost Q4/2002 as a sales window.

I think you'll see a whole slew of drivers for SP2003 by the end of Q2 and still not one for SP2002 - at least that's what I would do if I had to make these decisions.

I just got my phone the other day so yes I am a newbie asking a stupid question but can someone please humor me.

For the bluetooth (which I would like to see) why hasn't anyone worke on writing drivers to use the usb port on the bottom??? I have a dongle for my laptop that plugs into the usb port.

Like I said I am new to the phone but got it because of this forum sot thanks everyone!

To use a USB device you have to have a USB host port. It is doubtful that the USB port on the MPx200 is a USB Host port. Its a feature that is starting to show up in high end PPC devices and may eventually come over to the SP side but its not here now.

Posted by: AlanB

You're right about the USB-Host port, but they do make USB based GPS receivers that work with almost all PPC devices. I wonder what acts as the host device in that instance?

Posted by: JasBur

Thanks for the clarification.

Also in the PC Magazine review it states that it is and SD/IO port and it even compares it to the samsung so there is one for ya.

nice i hope it is SDIO... but nowhere on motorola's website does it say SDIO

Looks like a WiFi card is coming soon... including Drivers for SP2002

Posted by: thongkh

so, is wi-fi sd card can b use in mpx200?? had anyone try it??

Posted by: GrYph0n

Not at this time, WiFi SD cards (which are SIDO) will not work with the MPx200 (doesn't support SIDO)

Posted by: thongkh

ok.. then... just too bad...

Posted by: oallostavros

MSMobiles is reporting that there are some BETA drivers out for the SDIO WiFi cards from Socket and SanDisk that will work on the SmartPhone platform. Okay - so if drivers become available, then will wifi cards work in mpx 200?

If they release the drivers for the phone then chances are very good that it should work...

this is a great news!!! biggrin.gif

Please indulge the technically challenged.

ASSUMING this would work, drivers and all, what does this mean in terms of phone capabilities? Would it be possible to use with Bluetooth?

Posted by: FiReBReTHa

If there is a Bluetooth Capable device to fit the slot as well as a Bluetooth driver and capable programs.

THEN yes.

I sadly just learned that the MPX200 isnt Bluetooth because I was preparing to give it to my wife but now looks like shes getting the V600 when I get the MPX220

SyChip has confirmed to infoSync that it is developing drivers so that its Wi-Fi SDIO cards will work in Windows Mobile for Smartphone 2003 devices. Although still in beta at the moment, SyChip expects the drivers to be completed in January. SyChip does not sell its own Wi-Fi cards, however, SanDisk and Socket both sell Wi-Fi cards that are essentially rebranded SyChip cards and SyChip will provide the new driver to both companies to distribute to users.

The new drivers work only with dedicated Wi-Fi SDIO cards, not with the company's dual-function cards that also include flash storage capacity. SyChip says that is due to a limitation of the firmware used by many handset manufacturers, but can be addressed with a firmware upgrade. The driver also requires the smartphone to be unlocked. Many US carriers lock phones specifically to their network to keep users from switching networks, which has the side effect of preventing the installation of new drivers.

Just get the mpx220 of you all want bluetooth then to have the trouble of having all these things sticking out of the phone. For wifi, wait for the MPX

Posted by: TDL

okay, so we know there is a driver for the SyChip cards now, but may it work with the newer (smaller and cheaper) sdio wifi cards, too?

Posted by: smeg36

What driver are you referring to? The only wifi driver I have seen is the Socket driver for the Sagem my-s7 Smartphone. There is the miniSD wifi card by Spectec, but they don't have drivers that work with any Smartphones yet. I went to the http://www.sychip.com/index.htm, and they do have pictures of Smartphones on the homepage, but I couldn't find any drivers anywhere. Nor have I read of anyone using their cards successfully in a Smartphone. I would love to try it out in my E200 if it is supposed to work.

For bluetooth you can also use a Jabra headset with the Jabra 210 adapter for non bluetooth phones. You will just need a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter from Radioshack.

Posted by: armwood

I received my Jabra 210 yesterday. You do not need an adapter. The plub on the adapter is a mini plug (2.5) which works perfectly with the MPX200. It is great to be alble to use my Jabra 250 with my MPX220 in my car. This is a wonderful solution to the bluetooth issue with this phone. You may by the adapter on Ebay. The Jabra 210 cost me $36.53, $41.53 including shipping.

Posted by: smeg36

That is a good solution for using a headset. Just a note though, it doesn't work for other BT profiles, only headsets.

I don't know if anybody is paying attention to this topic anymore, or even cares, but I found something recent, and I am planning on trying it. Here is a quote from a post, by a guy named Roswell Greens, that I found at gsmarena.com:

"NOTE for the non-believers... this phone DOES support WIFI cards on its very much WEIRD SD/MMC slot... I tested a few that didnt work at all but amazingly the Kodak SDIO WIFI adapter works like a charm (it came with a KODAK cam my wife gave to me as a gift)"

I think I will do the requisite upgrade to 2003 and try it out. Really. I will post my results. Or, if no one cares anymore, just tell me to shut up. wink.gif

That's very interesting. I'd like to hear your results. I don't see how the card could make a differnce without having the drivers though.

Posted by: runningtiger

I'd be very interested to hear your results too! I have a friend I could pass my ol'200 along to. If it could do the WIFI trick that'd be awesome. I already have the Jabra BT adapter and 2003 installed on it. <fingers crossed it works!>

Here we go again Motorola's MPX200 doesn't support SDIO (Secure Digital Input/Output)

Posted by: zosdog

Of all the searching of topics I have done, I haven't seen one person actually say they tried it. I have a bid in for a kodak wifi card on eBay as I speak. Er, type. Supposedly kodak only made one model of this adapter. That helped narrowing it down. smile.gif

There is some question about that the Sandisk WiFi card may work, I have never tried it myself but there are some drivers out there for the Viewsonic PDA which has the same type of SD slot as the MPx200.

To the best of my knowledge Viewsonic has two different drivers listed on their site that enables the Sandisk WiFi card to work with a couple of their PDAs.

I had a Viewsonic model 37 a long time ago and it was not easy but I finally managed to get the Sandisk card working in that unit.

Posted by: zosdog

I finally got the card, just need some time to try to set it up. And maybe some luck. Thanks for the Viewsonic driver info, ardec1. Every bit is appreciated.
