Yep, you could. They are sold unlocked, and sim free. You'd have to put in your data settings, but other than that you'd be ready to go.

Excellent! I will probably have to try the Crackberry I mentioned in my "Emergency" post but, it sounds like there might be hope for me yet...

Thanks for the input everyone.

I will do a little homework and see what I can cook up... If I can run a Blackberry client on a device of my choice, they would probably be fine with the idea.

Thanks again

I just accepted a new job and will now officially be among the road warrior crowd, instead of just playing one on TV...

Wait a minute. Houston we have a problem... They are setting me up with a Blackberry 8830 World Edition, that's no smartphone! I have never used one but, they seem to be a fine messaging / phone device, and that's it.

Anyone used one, and can offer a fair comparison? My current device is a 3125, I had planned to move to a HTC Touch Dual or Cruise. I'll miss the flip but, wanted to avoid carting a laptop everywhere I go and saw the touchscreen devices as a worthwhile substitute.

My new employer has just invested in software (server I assume?) for this big blackberry rollout, is it too late for them/me?

IMHO carrying two devices sort of defeats the purpose of compact devices, so I have ruled that out.

After I am established in my new role, I may try to convert them to Windows Mobile. Where can I find some info on feature comparisons that I can use for my case?

Thanks...

If I get my hands on one of these, can I just swap a SIM and use it on my existing AT&T plan?

I just loaded the "new" HTC ROM and want to use the green splash screen as a homscreen background. It has a Microsoft Logo and says Direct Push..... something. I found the orange colored Cingular image but not the green one. Anyone know where it is stored?

System Information screen shows ROM version is 4.1.502.5

Sorry about the image issues. Let me know if it is working for you now. Enjoy RT's review of the HTC Touch. Looks like a very nice PPC Phone and it is 30 times more powerful than an iPhone smile.gif.

Works like a champ now. Thanks!

I installed a 2GB PNY Micro SC card in my 3125 and the phone very quickly became warm to almost hot (underneath the battery cover) and fully discharged the battery in about 3 hours. The card was installed correctly per the manual. Has anyone experience a similar problem?

Have you tried a different card?

I just read through the manual, it's a no-go on a Smartphone. Hopefully they will tweak it for the rest of us...

What a great idea. Does it work on WM 5.0 Smartphones?

I have wished for a way to automatically change from business-like boring ringtones while at work to funny/other tones while off duty.

I would love to be able to turn off the backlight while in "night profile", in dark conditions simply having the display on and backlight off is plenty of light and won't cause night blindness while driving.

nobody knows?

Try searching through the registry, don't make any changes that you are unsure of. Be sure you backup your Registry first.

Try this, it worked on my 3125.

HKEY_Current_USER->Control Panel->Backlight->Values->KeylightTimeout
Mine was set to 15000. I believe it is 15000 milliseconds, ie. 15 seconds.
I set it to 30000 and you guessed it the keypad stayed lit for 30 seconds.

If you aren't familiar with changing registry settings, proceed with caution...you can make your phone into a nice shiny paperweight.

Good luck...

See if this works for you...

Settings --> Power Management --> Backlight timeout on battery (or AC)

How about an app that will use the standard ringtones or custom ringtones based on the current profile. I have some funny tones that I don't want to use at work, but also don't want to take the time to change them outside of the office.

Profile: At Work, would use standard "boring" tones

Profile: Normal, would use funny "offensive" tones

I have seen the both the big E and a smaller E, in the middle of the icon bar on my phone with a Cingular SIM. I have been curious about it for a while. The E over the signal strength indication is always small. It probably means something to someone......

The battery life alone would be enough for me to make the change from the Mpx220 to the 3125, but there's more...

Larger screen, more stable OS, external buttons for Media player, and finally....NO MORE FINGERPRINTS on the cheesy chrome finish of the Mpx220!!!!

2) There are seceral options. It doesn install it's own homescreen, but you don't have to use it. You could take the Cingular .xml homescreen file, open it in notepad, and insert the Fizz plugin to the Cingular homescreen if you want. It can be a little confusing to edit an .xml in notepad, and there are hmescreen exitors out there thar may be able to put the Fizz plugin to the Cingular homescreen.

I'd be more than happy to insert it for you if you want. Just post the Cingular .xml (either the actual file as an attachment, or copy/paste the info directly from notepad), and tell me where you want want it on the homescreen (between other plugins), and I'd do it when I got a chance. I think editing homescreens is fun, and worth learning how to do if you're willing to put some time in it though.

Do I need to buy the Fizz app if all I want is the homescreen plugin?

If not, can someone post the plugin here?

My two cents...

Sounds like your IT guys is afraid to try it because it's something new to learn....chicken!

We have an exchange server and 4-5 smartphones and 3 BB's, our IT guy hooked me up without much effort, it was his second time doing it.

He already had the server end of things setup, and as posted above, it was just a matter of a few entries to setup ActiveSync and enable "pushing".

I don't have any experience with BB's, but it seems pretty obvious that the Smartphones are far more capable.

They allowed me to upgrade my recent Power Calendar WM2003 purchase to Agenda One WM5.0 for $14.95, great customer service.

I'm still feeling my way around, but Agenda One seems to be as good as the previous version of Power Calendar.
