My order is already in for this device.  That should tell you what I think of it.  As I learn more about it, I will post other observations.

tobyp,

You may or may not know the answer to this but, since I am not a T-Mobile customer would they be willing to sell me an unlocked version of this device?

Thanks

Yes, I did the see the tirade initiated by msmobiles.com    I have also replied in their forum about this issue.

Essentially, I think it's a non-issue.

These devices, by and large, are not intended to be used as a substitute for a laptop or desktop computer.  They are intended to help keep you organized and in touch.  I have yet to load a GPS program, so perhaps there may be some slowness there, I simply do not know.  As I said in the msmobiles forum.....

It's not always about speed!

Sorry, just a few more questions if you don't mind tobyp biggrin.gif

Not to belabor the point but, did you notice any slowness in basic navigation or media intensive applications (ie: games or large files)?

Can you comment on the screen? Several people have mentioned that it seems dull looking and appears to be washed out.

Also I currently use, and love, MS Voice Command software. Do you know if it's possible to use a Bluetooth headset to initiate voice commands with the h6315?

Thanks in advance.

The h6315 *does* have the camera on it.  The resolution is OK, not great.  I've been playing with a test version all weekend long.  So far, I like the features of the phone.  We're definitely going to need the extended-life battery though.  Especially if you plan to leave GPRS on all the time.  Haven't yet tried the GPRS to Wi-Fi hand-off at Starbucks, but plan to do that this week.  The Wi-Fi did pick up my 802.11b signal in the house and worked flawlessly there.  But since I have such bad GSM coverage at my house, I could not try out the switch.  One other thing that we will ALL want to invest in........ a decent case.  The one HP will likely ship is simply "OK", not great, but basic functionality.

After three days of playing with this phone, I *LOVE* it!
That's good to hear tobyp.

Question: There's been quite a stir regarding the processor only running at 168mhz, can you comment as to the performance of this device?

Thanks

I read that Audiovox was pulling out of the wireless handset market and now I don't see this on AT&T's website.

Anybody know if this phone has been killed? :!:

Sent off for mine the end of October as well and still nothing. I called the 800 number and was told that it takes about 8 weeks. I also sent an email and basically received the same answer.

I've had the same experience. Somtimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

Penalty! It is short-sightedness such as this that leads to mediocrity. Instead of penalizing "early adopters" they should be sympathetic and cater to those willing to embrace new technologies instead of alienating them! I understand the concept of planned obsolescence but, if I spend $300 for a phone I don' t think that it is too much to ask that if a newer version of the OS is released, especially if it's within 3-6 months of puchasing the older version, that a software upgrade be offered. These phones are designed to receive software upgrades, if there's no plan to offer upgrades then why bother including a flashable ROM? I did research this phone before purchasing it and was aware that an upgrade was questionable at best but, I still think that AT&T should offer one when available (especially if this phone is selling as well as reported). Buyer beware? I think it is the Seller who better beware because if they treat buyers like "early adopters" they'll be leaving in droves.

Sorry for the rant, just had to get that off my chest biggrin.gif

This past weekend my MPx200 froze on the Motorola Splash screen and despite several attempts I was unable to revive it. So I had to perform the dreaded hard reset and spend most of a morning re-configuring it.

Now for the question:

Does anyone know if Sprite Software will be offering a backup app like the one they have for the Pocket PC?

I found it to be invaluable and it sure would have come in handy this past weekend.

Sorry if this is a silly question but, is the Caller ID application that is included on the startup disk installed on your phone?

Based on my experiences with the Pocket PC, drivers for keyboards are provided by the hardware manufacturer. I would assume that the SmartPhone is no different.

To my knowledge Avantgo does not support the SmartPhone platform. I'm not sure why you'd want it though since you have an internet connection?

If it is unprofitable and AT&T decides not to offer an upgrade then Motorola or Microsoft really need to step up to the plate and reward those who have embraced this new technology and not leave them out in the cold.

But again you would have issues without the drivers.

Hi Stephen,

I'll try to answer some of your questions without screwing things up too bad:

1. There are two forms of locking. Network locking and Application locking, the MPx200 is network locked meaning that it is supposed to run only on the AT&T Network. There are ways around this and are several places that you can have this done for a fee. Smartphones can also be Application locked and this means that the applications to be run on the Smartphone must be certified before they can be run on the phone (less familiar with this but you get the idea).

2. A handwriting recognition program would be useless as the Smartphone does not have a touchscreen.

3. Smartphone software is specialized due to the smaller screen and lack of a touchscreen, so Win CE 2.11 software will not be compatible.

4. Check to make sure coverage is good in your area and look around to see if the software you need is available (www.handango.com is a good place to start).

5. I know Synchronization with an Exchange Service is possible but do not have any experience in this matter.

Hope this helps and welcome to the site laugh.gif !

Radio Shack should have one, I think the part # is 274-373 (it may have a letter on the end, a "C", but I'm not sure :? ).

Unfortunately no, this is something that was left off of the Smartphone OS (probably due to the size of the screen and issues with text input). There are, however, several viewers that will let you well . . . view ( ) word documents (no editing) such as ClearVue.

I haven't checked extensively on this but one way is to change the profile to "Silent" (may not be very practicle though  ).

Hi Sean,

Just wanted to thank you for putting this site together, I've been poking around a little and hope to visit much more of it this weekend. I'm really excited about the upcoming contests as well as any new information regarding the MPx200 (especially cases for our beloved phone laugh.gif ).

One question I do have so far is:
Will a mobile version of the site be made available?

Thanks again and keep up the good work. It's very much appreciated!
