Mobile Gadget News :: Making Your Mobile Life Simpler _ HTC Hurricane, Robbie & Tornado _ Sort the start menu

Posted by: jtrain73 Apr 15 2006, 08:47 PM

Just got my 2125 and been adding some programs to the start menu - and from what I can tell the start menu is not sorted in any sensible way - it isn't alphabetic or anything and the folder groups are at the end.

How do you go about sorting the display in the start menu?

Excuse my reply to my own post - but I found Jeyo Personalizer which seems to do the trick here. Any native solutions that I missed?

You can do it with a registry hack, but there isn't any way to do that built-in. The programs should be sorted alphabetically by default after the first few programs, which are always at the top of the menu (unless you rearrange it with Jeyo or the registry hack).

Where can I find how to do the registry hack? Jeyo seems to be messing me up.

On my i-mate SP5m it's here:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartMenu\Order]

My list looks like this:

Messaging.lnk
Calendar.lnk
Contacts.lnk
Games
Accessories
Task Manager.lnk
MIDlet Manager.lnk
Internet
Utilities

This list is the order they show up on the screen as well. So, Messaging is in the #1 slot (uppermost left icon) with #2 being Calendar in the middle of the top row, and #3 Contacts is the uppermost right and so on.

I mention that 'cuz if I remember right, the MRU list shows up in reverse order - at least it did on my MPx220. The MRU list that shows up in the registry of my SP5m has nothing to do with what shows up on the homescreen. I think the difference is due to the wm5 OS.

Please excuse my unhackerlike ignorance...is that on your phone or your computer? I don't have the shell directory on my computer, and I don't know how to get to the registry on my phone (blackjack).

Thanks for any pointers.

Sorry. Did some poking around on my own and found something (from another thread on this site) that does the trick for me:

One tiny bit of ignorance removed. Countless more to go.

Glad you found what you were looking for. As you know by now, the registry is actually on the phone and you need a registry editor either on the phone or, on your computer (and the phone connected via USB to your computer) to access the registry to make any changes (hacks).
