This is what i did
ran aeconfig and mine was already app unlocked
ran resetsecurity
ran the cert.cab from the phone(it comes with the unlock tools zip)
ran the spvservices.exe and hit agree and TADA the phone is unlocked. (i think a restart is needed since once i unlocked my sdcard didnt work... ohmy.gif )
restart fixed it...
tested with tmo sim and works like a charm... Thanks to all the people involved in creating this tool and people who took time to tell everyone how they did it...

2 questions:

1. regarding resetsecurity, is this the resetsecurity.exe or the resetsecurity.xml with rapiconfig?

2. can you run spv-services on a 5600 connected via bluetooth, or must this be USB?

All,

1. I used resetsecurity.exe, works fine on the phone.
2. Yes, must be USB. SPV services wouldn't work over bluetooth (for me).

Final result: 1 more unlocked SMT5600 (for free) smile.gif smile.gif Tested with a T-Mo SIM just now.

Has anyone "unlocked" an AT&T branded STM 5600 using this?

The "beta" product that was put out several months ago, didnt work with the STM 5600. Thanks.

I have read several reports of people unlocking AT&T SMT5600s. I'm not sure what has changed since the initial release, but some part of the process for the SMT is different than it was for the C500 I believe. It will now work.

The instructions worked on my AT&T-issued SMT5600...and I tested it with a T-Mo sim from work after reboot. No issues - phone found the T-mobile network w/o any issues.

2 days ago i received a new SMT5600 from Cingular and within 5 minutes of turning it on, i was able to remove the SIM Lock with the above mentioned tools. simply amazing...

AT&T Branded STM 5600 unlocked beautifully. Now I can switch over the Cingular and "Rollover" without getting a new (ie, expensive) phone.

I'm soon getting a Cingular SMT5600 and I was wonding,
will I have to have a singular sim in order to et the phone to boot up and be able to unlock it , or could the menus still be accessible without any sim card present in the device.
also I would REALLY appreciate it if anyone was kind enough to send me all the files I need for this to my email: vette555@yahoo.com

thanks,

Hold the two keys, but not the power button. Press and hold the softkeys, but press and release the power button...

Ok, getting a little off topic, but...

To get your phone to appear to be a Cingular phone, check this thread.
http://www.mobilegadgetnews.com/index.php?showtopic=7241&hl=cingular+branding...

To get rid of the mMode icon, open the phones builtin file explorer, goto Storage>windows>Start Menu, then highlight mMode, hit menu>properties, and check the hidden box. Presss OK/Save (?) and on the next restart you won't see mMode in the start menu.

Now we return you back to the topic of Free unlocking your SMT5600 wink.gif biggrin.gif

thanks for all the help

Thanks to all for the helpful info on unlocking my 5600. I was wondering if anyone has the patience to go through the instructions in more detail? For example, I can't even figure out how to get to "aeconfig." Tried to Run it and Search for it, but no joy.

Really appreciate any help.

I have the same question. Will I be able to boot an AT&T or Cingular SMT5600 bought off of ebay (without an AT&T or Cingular sim card in it) so I can un-lock it for eventual use with my T-Mobile sim card?

Thanks for any suggestions.

UPDATE: Just found out from this discussion http://www.selberg.org/2005/07/22/unlock-an-audiovox-5600-for-free that a native sim card will be required. Perhaps I can borrow one from a friend.

Never mind - I found a post saying it doesn't get affected. In case anyone's interested, I also tried it. No issues.

Can anyone help? I just bought a audiovox SMt5600 off of ebay and it is locked. The seller listed it as unlocked. My current cell provider is T-Mobil. I am happy and want to use my existing SIM with my new SMT5600. I tried the instructions below but to no avail.

I am not very technical but want to get my phone up and running. Can anyone out there walk me through the process?

Regards,

slongadgets

Hi. I have a problem with smt5600.It's AT&T phone and i don't have the sim card It's asking for the password for the sim lock.Any suggestions?

Posted by: smeg36

I'm a little confused exactly as to what you're doing. If you don't have a SIM you should get a message saying Invalid or Missing SIM. If you have a SIM other than an AT&T SIM you'd get the message asking for the SIM password. Which is the case?

I have Fido sim,and is asking me for password. I'm in Canada,so don't have anyone to borow At&T sim from.

You can get one pretty cheap on ebay. I assume you need an AT&T SIM to unlock it using that method? I've never done it the free way so I'm not sure. If you use the pay service http://www.imei-check.co.uk/c500unlock.php you could have it unlocked tonight and I'm pretty sure you don't need the SIM for it. It's been a while since I did that with my old SMT5600, but I'm pretty sure an AT&T SIM isn't required.
