Our focus at Mobile Gadget News is on Windows Mobile devices. And for good reason: Windows Mobile is fast becoming the Number 1 PocketPC / Smartphone operating system in the world. However, seeing a the Treo 700w was first released as a Windows device, this news on the Treo 700p (runing Palm OS) is interesting.

http://www.palminfocenter.com/news/8433/treo-700p-spotted-likely-may-june-release/ is reporting that one of its readers was asking about the Treo 700p at a local Sprint store. The technician pulled up a Sprint webpage which listed a part number and a May/June release date.

Treo 700p details: Palm OS Garnet v5.4.9. - EVDO high speed data - a 320x320 pixel display - 1.3 MP camera w/1280x1024 max image resolution - 62.8 MB of free RAM.

If that RAM is accurate (which it might not be, the 700w was reported to have 64MB of RAM up to it's release as well) it confirms, or at least give some validity to, my conspiracy theory about the 700w RAM issue. My theory is Palm, not wanting to loose all their loyal Palm customers, purposefully limited the RAM in the 700w. By doing this they attracted the Windows Mobile users, myself included, without loosing the Palm users. The Palm users are able to gripe about something, the RAM, and use it as an excuse to avoid the obviously superior OS.
