Hi,
Got my new battery from here http://www.connexions.f2s.com/batteries.htm cost about £9-00 incl. vat & postage, it says 1000mAh on the site but the one that arrived was 1100, definitely gave mine a longer life BUT you need to put it on charge for 24hrs then run flat and do it again.

Hi Brains,
This crosses about three topics !.

1] Unable to see all folders using A/Sync, enable " show hidden/system files"
[ that one made me feel like a one legged man at an @$$ kicking competition]

2] .Net CF install, the full released version installed without any problems.

3] Neither of the unit converters will run, even after the CF install [ I guess someone UP THERE rolleyes.gif doesn't want me to have one] they both show the same error messages as before.

But thanks for your help.
Max.

Well I was too impatient and went for it, the instructions should say " How to turn your phone into an instant paperweight"

Net2 installed on the PC then the phone no probs. press OK to re-boot, no prob. tried to run the program that needed the update, UNEXPECTED ERROR,
I cold booted the phone and it wouldn't turn on, and the charger wouldn't charge either. DED, so tried pulling the battery still no go.

Put the SD card in a reader, deleted everything with CF in it, phone booted ok, then uninstalled .net and the phones now working. biggrin.gif.

Hi again Dr,
Please don't spend anymore time on this at the moment, I've installed the following two progs. neither of which will run, both cabs said installed succesfully.
Romeo's unit conv. error message:- the control picturebox1 could not be created.
mobileconverter, error message:- requires a newer version of M/soft .Net compact framework than the version installed on this device. UM !
I've just downloaded NETCFv2SP1 beta with destuctions on how to install, but I think I'll wait until I hear from you before running it, unsure.gif
Thanks, Max.

Hi DrBrains,

You mentioned finding s/ware for WM5, I'm unable to find a free/cheap and simple unit converter, I was using Jiminez Romano's for 2003 but it won't run,[ excuse me Jiminez if I've got your name wrong] most of the converters are much too complicated with currency thrown in as well, all I want is length weight temperature and volume, my 2003 alarm prog. failed as well and have bought Oxios, works a treat.

Thanks,
Max.

Hi Smeggy,
That's a new one on me, different coverage for PAYG and contract, our signal strength has dropped from 3 or 4 bars to no signal 1 bar in the last two months on Orange, [two diff. phones].

I phoned Orange and was told quite openly that two transmitters have been down for several months and two more have gone down since, couldn't say when they'll be fixed, please don't say change to T-Mobile tried that and didn't have a phone for three days, although the shop said excellent coverage in our postcode.

Radio version 0.810.

Just remembered that storage is what I named my SD card for 2003

This is making my brain hurt, [no real pun intended] I've just gone to pictures and video where I've only got two pictures at the moment flower and waterfall, then menu\my device [option 8 ] and the very first folder shown is storage, I can then scroll down to windows and open it and lo and behold there's a folder there called startup.
Have to go now it's opening time tongue.gif will check my version of WM5 tomorrow morning when I finish work.

Hi again Dr.,

There's no such directory as \windows using A\S, it only goes as far as \storage\application data\home, you have to use a reader, done it now and I can open> windows\start menu\accessories\to install\whatever I put in there, using the phone.

Hi Dr,
Typical, can't check at the moment, just put my phone on charge, what I couldn't appear to do was scroll down to \accessories and add a sub folder \to install, could do it using the card reader but A/S didn't show accessories.

Will check again later this morning.

Before you start doing anything you remove the SIM and charge the battery so it is fully charged.
Flash the first image file and follow the earlier instructions.
You MUST wait for the error message about the device ID before doing anything else.
Flash the second image and the third without doing anything else.
Remove the battery and follow the earlier instructions.
Finally, after everything is done, put your SIM card back in and start the phone.

Hi,

I'm sure I'd left my phone on charge all night [ could be wrong after a few beers ! ], but my battery died whilst formatting IPSM, it looks as though several people have dead phones, is it possibly the same problem, upgrading kills the battery especially after several failed flashes ?.

Anyway, I luckily had a spare with a low charge put that in and was able to charge it enough to hard reset the phone and carry on, I think I left it plugged in whilst hard re-setting.

ok just to be plain and simple wm2005 is by far the best yet.

PROS
faster os
better reception
battery life improved

CONS
no task manager ( reccomend 3rd party)
no batter or memory ( reccomend 3rd party)
that weird thing that it keeps showing numbers on the external screen
and this os has less personality ( ex you cant change the external display)

SOLUTIONS
3rd party programs
registry editer
WILL FIX ALL PROBLEMS

PS for some questions asked earlier i have a 2gb sandisk sd card i dont know what happend but now it only shows up as a 1gb i dont really know why im guessing wm5 partitioned it when it was formatting and now the second gb is just waste space

Hi, was running WM2003 and my 2 gig only showed as one gig, just upgraded to WM5 and the card is still showing only one gig.

i followed this steps, but also failed.

i think the rom doesn't support my mpx200.

there may be some different between my mpx200 and yours.

Hi mine crashed on the second IMG file install three or four times, used a different SD card and it worked, worth a try.

*edit: problem now solved by enabling DHCP. smile.gif

Thanks to everyone who contributed with all tips and tricks here. I have now flashed my phone to WM2005, and it seems to be fast responsive. However, I have one (at least for now) problem. Activesync won't recognize it. I have reinstalled Activesync 4.1, deleted the previous phone connection and restarted both my computer and my phone several times.
The thing that really troubles me is that when I connect the phone, my computer recognizes it as a network card operating at 10mbps, and tries to aquire an ip address from it.
I'm on a 6mbit dsl connection with a static ip on my machine, so I really don't need gprs for surfing. Any tips?

Hi,
Just joined this forum, both my friend [ Nokia and data suite] and I [WM3 and active sync] have had real problems connecting phones, it seems to be the dsl modem, disconnect that first and try syncing again, it worked for both of us.
Good Luck

This is the same problem I am having. I followed these instructions religiously and after flashing image3 and removing and reinstalling the battery the phone is unresponsive after step 13.
The phone is a triband mpx200 and I am using a 256mb sandisk SD card. The phone does not respond to the power button or master reset. It is not detected when plugged into USB. The only abnormality I can think of is that I dont have a SIM card to use yet, so at no time durring this process have I had one to insert. I dont see how this could cause my problem though.

Any suggestions would be most welcome!

It's not a missing sim card error, as after I flashed and reset mine and forgot to put the card in, it went all through the boot sequence and said the usual " bad or missing sim card"

Hi Smeggy,

Couldn't resist picking up the gauntlet, even at my tender age biggrin.gif I've always been a gadget anorack.
The second .img file crashed four times, I was using a sandisk 128, don't think it's a sandisk problem [very old card], used an integral 128 and away it went-ish, had my battery on charge all night, and it went flat formatting IPSM, [it went flat at the same place every time, was sure it was an install prob.] managed to find my old battery and got the phone up and running enough to plug in the charger and finished the flash that way.
First impression, I like it
Next, other post's have mentioned using a card reader to copy all the files to another SD disk, one file wouldn't copy, mxip_notify.vol, tried two PC's no go, had to use my 2 gig SD card and hard reset that, works OK, [only reads first gig though, thought W MOBILE 5 might cure that].
Next next, A/Sync 4 doesn't show all the folders, I want to add a \to install one so I can find the programs I've copied across, but I might be crossing posts here, will check elsewhere first.

Max.

Hi Ammar,
Nope, the registry appears fine, everything works I've just hot swapped my 128/256/and 512 cards without a problem, it's only the 2 gig card that powers off my phone, and when I say powers off, it's an immediate off, it doesn't cycle through the powering down sequence.

I don't have a problem with this, as all my music is now on the 2 gig [1 gig readable] card instead of spread across four other cards, no need to hot swap.

But I'm still unable to find any partitioning software that will access the card to try 2 x 1 gig partitions, format, yes, partition no.

And yes I'm running 2003 not 2005, seen too many post's about crashed or dead phones.

ok, guys sorry i confused you, the answer is that it will read the first 1gb of a 2gb card....and no it will not power off your phone, the only issues ive had is that it either does not read the whole 2gb as "mounted volume", or will only read the FIRST 1gb, so it depends how everything is ordered on the card, and how the phone reads it.....

Yes it does power off my phone if I hot swap it.

Hi,
I think you'll find ringtones have to be WAV files, I use a program called Jet Audio to trim them down as approx. [darn I've forgotten] 20 secs is about a Meg.
Then all your music needs to go into a sub dir on your card under \Sounds, also there's a free prog called "Jeyo Personaliser" which sets up ringtones, themes, wallpaper and you can also set the first seven programs on your start menu, great for free, wouldn't be without it.

I also change the bitrate when recording my music to 64kbs per sec, they then take up just over half the room on your card, and through headphones you won't be able to hear the difference.
Good Luck.

My MP3 player is listed as other, there wasn't an option to say it's my MPx

Good idea,
I've just put a 2gig in my mpx200 and system info only shows about 950meg, I'm running WM2003 by the way, it's been suggested that I partition it into two 1 gigs, but Partition Magic 8 doesn't see the card in my reader and the trial version of Partition Manager shows the card but won't let me at it.
There are various ways via DOS and Linux apparently but are much too complicated for yours truly unsure.gif .
If anyone knows a cheap/free prog that will partition a USB SD card please let me know.
