I have not had the heating problem on mine and I've been through 2 of the 3125's. I use it a ton too mostly for calls and the internet. Perhaps replace it because, if it is not an Apple product, it shouldn't be heating up.

Thank for the response Abatis. I am actually using Cingular/ATT (don't know how my profile had changed to the 8525) and the reason I posted it was that there seems to have been concerns with the latest ROM update at least on the Howard forums.

I have begun to experience same problem with this 3125 unit that I did with the previous one that had to be returned which is fading reception and subsequent dropped calls (will at times hear a "whooshing" sound whereafter the caller is lost and the ONLY way to end the call is to completely shut the unit down.

Thought that this HTC machine would be the Panzer Tank of smartphones but looks like I will now go thru a 3rd 3125....was hoping maybe the latest ROM update would help any of this.

OK. Looks like this website (regardless of subforums; just look at the dates overall across the site) is as dead as a doornail.

Not even sure why this site is maintained.

Thanks one and all...................

I am looking to update the ROM/Firmware of my 3125 off of the download available on HTC's website and before doing so was wondering if anyone who has done this has any positive/negative feedback or noticed any appreciable changes since doing so.

Have backed everything up via Sprite on my card on the phone with Facade, Resco, etc.

Any feedback would be most welcome and thanks.

Try this, it worked on my 3125.

HKEY_Current_USER->Control Panel->Backlight->Values->KeylightTimeout
Mine was set to 15000. I believe it is 15000 milliseconds, ie. 15 seconds.
I set it to 30000 and you guessed it the keypad stayed lit for 30 seconds.

If you aren't familiar with changing registry settings, proceed with caution...you can make your phone into a nice shiny paperweight.

Good luck...

What is the latest and greatest registry edit app you folks are using on this specific unit please?

Thanks

I'm not 100% certain how the Blackberry software functions, but I was under the impression that it was an add-on to the MS Exchange server. If that is indeed the case, all your IT person would have to do is enable Activesync on the Exchange server, and you could be syncing with it without the need for the BB software at all. I personally think it is a much more simple and functional solution than the BB software because it is all integrated without the need for additional software bundled on top.

Thanks so much for the response Smeg. Omega made mention of this same solution as well earlier (i.e. no need for Good service/software). Talked with an IT manager with another company (I am anything but an IT person...) who employs 80 phones and he told me that they used Good but that it was due to their having Exchange 2002 at the time. Now that they are running 2003 Server with SP2 he told me that this should be easily done via permissioning Activesync.

I tried to drum up some white papers from MSFT and once I passed them to our IT guy he acted as if this was going to be a very large undertaking. Due to that attitude (deserved or not since I know next to nothing about servers) this is taking on a whole new dimension with management taking the position: "we already have Blackberry why don't we all just use that."

I have friends with Blackberries that are using multiple devices due to poor phone reception/performance of the Blackberry but want the email viewing "superiority" (read: another IT manager does NOT want to mess with 2 formats in the company) of the the Blackberry vs the "screwey" email push/pull functionality of the smartphone.

I do feel that this email functionality is THE MAJOR difference between SELLING smartphones to companies vs Blackberries; the RIM solution supposedly takes it offsite, off the server, hence presumably far easier for an overworked IT guy to say "let's just stick with Blackberries." Could be wrong but if true that SICKENS me.

Does anyone have any knowledge or articles on phone reception of the Blackberry vs a GSM Smartphone since that should be one of, if not the, primary concern of this????

Again, thanks Smeg.

I love my 3125. In my company we also have an IT person who is very reluctant to address installing goodlink on the servers to allow the smartphones here to email properly. This has much to do with all the effort put forward previously just to get 2 blackberries running remotely smooth.

We have one employee who is carrying a regular cellphone AND a blackberry.

If anyone could help me to defend the smartphone platform over the Blackberry (which I detest) I would appreciate it greatly (advantages phone reception, etc).

Need some help here bigtime or I may be forced to use a 2x4 for a phone if I cannot prevail.

If I were you I would stay clear of express mail... I have had nothing but problems with it. I would try hard to get your company to allow syncing to there exchage server OTA...instead of using Express Mail. For your yahoo accounts you can use Yahoo Go! which pushes the email to your phone automatically. As for your other accounts as long as they are pop or SMTP you can use Pocket Outlook...abeit not the best but it does work and at least when you manually pull for the email it works....

Thanks a bunch Omega. You recommend goodlink on the server or something different please? Thanks again.

I am continuing to have a problem with XpressMail which I also had with the MPX220:

Office email is run off MS Exchange 2003 SP 2.

When the phone pushes for email by schedule it gets the emails.

When I manually push for emails it will retrieve it perhaps 30% of the time. Most of the time I push for the email it will give error message stating that it cannot connect to desktop client.

I am also getting POP3 emails on my Yahoo Plus and Mac accounts with no problems whatsoever on the manual pushing for the email.

Is there ANYONE who can advise me how to deal with this problem please? Would be MOST appreciated.

Has anyone used the new 3125 with Goodlink wireless email? I administer our mobility for our company and have been evaluating the 3125 for the replacement for our 2125 and for those that want a flip smartphone. All I can say is the fonts aree way to small to read. Has anyone else experienced this? I compared to the 2125 and even with the fonts turned to the largest setting it still dwarfs the medium settgin from the 2125 by 2 times.

The issue is Good uses it's own application and does not use the system fonts. I am not sure if this is a Good, Microsoft, or Phoe issue. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark unsure.gif

I have not used Goodlink yet but rather using Xpressmail and am not all that satisfied with the latter. It will get the emails out but at times it seems to go on the blink not allowing a sync on demand from the phone ("cannot connect to the desktop client"). I am looking for something more reliable and one was goodlink. This is the first I've heard of a font issue with Goodlink.

Where did you purchase the case? Price and link please.

I seem to have run afoul with Noreve. In my thread below about the vaja case, a post gave a link to a review, largely negative of the Noreve case after I had already placed an order. I forwarded that link to Noreve and asked for an explanation of the complaints or I would cancel. No response yet for serveral days so once home from a trip I need to cancel them and give the Krussel case a chance.

I bot mine Krusell from SF planet. Here is a link (although I would double check to make sure it is ordered for the 3125 due the larger battery..:

Just received the case yesterday. Fit and finish is excellent. Stiching and leather quality is excellent. The outer plastic shield for the front is very thick and I cannot envision anything penetrating it in the future. If anything it may be too thick (will see after heat/cold temps vary over time).

Getting the phone into the case is a very very tight fit particularly on the bottom portion on the front. Because the link from the back to the front part of the case is elastic it does not keep a lot of upwards pull on the bottom portion. End result is that the holes for the speaker and the USB openings need to be carefully aligned (again, upwards) when you first try to plug the power cord into the phone. I did this very carefully with a fork and, now that it is seated properly, I think it will stay in place fine.

My overall impression is that this is a very good case and will prove quite durable over time.

SanDisk makes Extreme II microSD/Transflash cards, they are supposed to be faster. You could research them more on sandisks site and there are a few vendors online that sell them.

Just ordered it on Ebay for $94 plus shipping.....

Thanks Everyone

Okay, installed the 2 big SanDisk and it was immediately recognized by the phone. Transferred word, jpg, and audio files to the storage cards. All worked with the exception of the audio files which is my fault because I either have the wrong kind of audio files - don't use MP3, only cds - and/or did not install them through Windows Media player or whatever is the proper procedure.
The point is the card seems to work fine. It will just take me more than 5 minutes to understand how to use it properly.
On, BTW, I found a thread on the Cingular web where someone claimed he got a 2 gig - don't know name or if had adoptor, etc - and paid only $50 for it.

Edited to say that now have music playing from the storage card. Not sound bad with the headset.

Is this the 2gb "transflash" micro sd from sandisk please?

You can get a 2GB one off ebay for about 90.00 bucks or less.

Thanks for the response Omega. So the phone can handle any make/size of Micro SD so far as you know?

Anyone have any suggestions as to where I can find the largest card for the 3125 and one that works for sure with this phone. Have heard mixed information on whether it can handle a card larger than 1 GB and then other conflicts with certain manufacturers vs others (i.e. "verison" works, certain scandisc does not work, etc)

Just piecemealing my way through building it up to the software level I had on the MPX 220 (new version of sprite backup, etc).

Thanks!

Are you including Pocket PC Phones, or just Smartphones? If he wants a clamshell, the Samsung i600 is the only option. It's pretty cheap on ebay now though. I picked one up for $30 (a rare deal). The absolute best Smartphone is the Motorola Q. I am in love with mine. I just can't get over how beautiful it is. If he's including PPC Phones, it depends on what his uses would be. Probably the XV6700 though.

No more i600 on Verizon unfortunately. To him, the Q is same shape as the Blackberry....

The Sprite site has a forum that may help. However, I believe whatever last backup you had before the current one is all you will be able to use for data.

I just reflashed it to 1.43 then 3.45. Now I gotta get schooled on registry tweaks (the font on 3.45 is so tiny it's hard to see in addition to the Proxy/GPRS settings menus still being partially in Japanese after the regional changes). Loaded PHM and Mobile Registry Editor and need to read a lot before going any further. Don't suppose there is any sort of pdf or msword "manual" on the art of the tweak is there?

Thanks for responding folks.

Does anyone know how to "undo" the most recent restore. I think I just screwed myself in that I just received a replacement phone. Had the normal 1.43 on it. Then I inadvertantly restored it to an old backup on the screwed up old phone and it is no longer showing any of the message settings.

I desperately need to somehow find a way to undo the last restore if at all possible.

Thanks MUCHO ANYONE!

What version of updater you have? Maybe application is corrupted?

Newest version is 1.8.5 I think.

1.8.5. It would appear (not via Gino's blog but by Omega's) that the mlf file had to be saved in notepad. Once I did that I got beyond the debugging and no error message appeared.

In the end it failed totally which is too bad since I've spent my entire day today messing with this "smart" phone. Took it down to Cingular and of course they have none of the phones in stock. Business division can send me another but will be useless since I take off out of town on the 6th for 3 days.

Really enjoyable to have such a useful phone and all the wonderful support from Motorola and Cingular.
