I just bought a O2 XDA Orbit from ebay to replace my old XDA Mini S. But I got a problem. The previous owner upgraded Orbit to WM6 and my Mini S still use WM5 so ActiveSync in my computer is 4.2, which is not working with WM6. I tried to download ActiveSync 4.5 from Microsoft website but it does not work.

I would like to know if I can copy outlook data, like calendar/contact and SMS file from Mini S to Orbit?

If the answer is yes, can someone tell me the file name and location.

Or someone can tell me where to down load a working ActiveSync 4.5?

Thanks in advance

What age exactly are you trying to figure out? How old the ROM is, when it first started being used, when it was manufactured, etc? I've seen ways on other devices to figure out those various ages, but I'm not certain how to do it on the XDA Mini S as I've never had one.

I want to know when it was manufactured. There is a way to find out when a MOTO MPX200 was made so I wander may be some way to find out a PPC?

XDA or MDA?

I can't help with an XDA specifically but what follows probably works the same. If this question is about your MDA, then you'll need to open whatever software you're using with your GPS receiver (resumably this would be mapping software). Then you'd need to set up the GPS communications from within that software (let it know which outgoing com port you're using, the baud rate etc.) then make sure GPS is turned on from within your software. On the software I use there is a setting that says "start GPS". Look for something like that.

If you don't have mapping software, it's been my experience that the receivers themselves come with software that allows you to connect and see what satellites are being tracked etc. If yours didn't come with something like that, I'd look for a free download or trial somewhere.

Go to the hardware reviews forum and check the reviews of GPS receivers for some tips on how to set them up on your device.

Good luck!

My one is O2 XDA Mini S, also called MDA Vario (or something like that). I did have a Map software coming with the phone. But it does not work. I think both GPS and phone are working. Because I can link BT of phone to my BT of laptop with has a indicator of linking. So did the GPS. I will have a look at the site you recommended. Thanks a lot.

Over at Modaco.com I've read about guys painting theirs. Don't know if anyone's done a Wizard specifically though. I think it's some kind of special paint (like they use on model cars & planes etc) that they 'bake' in an oven to get a good hard finish. I have no idea if it holds up since I didn't follow the threads, but did think it was interesting.

Actually I did similar thing before. I sprayed my Moto V66 to a metalic blue. It was so beautiful. But the problem is it wears quick quickly. I assume the paint is not the special ones.

Had a look at your recommended manual and feel a bit disappointed. I want to try to do something about thr front facia, but it turns out it can only be dismounted after I take everything else apart!

Did you find a new shell for your MDA? Or, are you going to paint it or something like that?

Click here for link to service manual.

I had a look at eBay. Not very promising. But I have friends in Far East, I may ask them to source and take over. All those stuff seem to come from Hong Kong or China.

The first thing I could do now is to open and clean front facia, especially the tough screen. This is of course depend on my confidence.

I know I am a bit addicting. I just cannot stop of thinking to change a new case for my new toy. It was bought as second hand from eBay. I am not happy with the 'daily worn out'. Can someone give me a direction to 'how to strip' manual (if there is one)? I googled but found non.

This page has more than one thing you might be interested in, but APP unlock is the first one on the list.

Good luck!

Thanks, I will have a go.

The MDA is fun, glad to hear you're enjoying it. You'll really like it after you get it app unlocked. (See your other question for an updated link on how to get that done.) I was 'playing' with my MDA the other day and was reminded of how much I like it. If only the Bluetooth wouldn't turn itself off - I'd actually use it instead of just 'play' with it!

I forgot to mention that other 220 owners have mentioned getting an external battery charger when the internal no longer works reliably. I'm not quite sure how a desktop charger (that you normally use) and a wall outlet charger (that I mention) differ? I just meant an AC charger as compared to a USB charger - which is probably what you mean too. I just wanted to be clear if there was a mis-understanding.

So, what worked for me was using an AC wall charger and then charging the phone with it in the upside down & open position so that the phone's weight rested on the charger plug part that plugs into the bottom of the phone. The little bit of weight on it to kept good contact with those two little prongs and ensured it was actually charging while plugged in. On mine, I could wiggle the plug part up and down and watch the indicator at the top of the screen change from the plug icon to the battery - showing that it was not always in charge mode even though it was plugged in.

Good luck with both phones!

I seem to get rid of the app lock issue from my MDA. It seems after the first failed attempt, if I tried the second install or the third, it let me do it. I am 'shopping' round now!
My desktop charger has to connect to PC via USB. But the beter thing is the phone sit in it (actually on top of the connector) almost vertically so the weight plays a bit role. I am going to try to 'exhaust' the whole battery then recharge it with AC adaptor during weekend.
Thanks again!

Have you tried leaving it plugged into an wall outlet charger for a day or so to make certain it is really charged fully? If I remember right, some people ran into problems who charged via USB where the phone really wasn't receiving a complete charge. Other than that, I don't have any other suggestions.

The 220 is notorious for having a flaky charger adapter and it isn't always charging just 'cuz it's plugged in. I found it useful to leave the flip open on my 220 and then turn it over while it was charging. This forced some pressure on the contacts and it would charge. Normally I would have closed it while charging or left it sitting open but in a normal position with the battery door sitting on the table top rather than up in the air. Know what I mean? Anyway, eventually my 220 wasn't holding a charge very long and we got a new 3125 and I never bothered to find out what was up with it not holding a charge.

Good luck!

I did use wall charger from time to time. But I normally plug the phone into desktop charger in my office first thing in the morning and charge/sync it until 'full'.
I will take your advice.

By the way, thank you very much for your advice of pocket PC. I bought a O2 XDA Mini S (i-mate KJam, MDA Vario, what ever you call it). It is a lot of fun! Maybe after sometime I would not bother any issue with MPX220 as well.

It also know here in the US as the T-Mobile MDA and all variants of this model are referred to as the HTC Wizard. I unlocked my Wizard (mine is a T-Mobile MDA) using the files found in "lokiwiz.zip". In the left hand column of this page, scroll down until you see the box "Mobilegadgetnews Friends" then click on XDA-Developers and search for the file I mentioned and/or, go to the Wizard forum there and read all about unlocking etc.

Be careful...there are G3 & G4 Wizards...make sure you know what you got before you do anything!

At XDA's Wizard forum the second sticky down is the Difinitive Guide to Unlocking G3's...start there and have fun!

Had a look at your recommendation but a bit of confusing. My XDA is SIM unlocked already because I can use Orange SIM card in it (of course O2 as well). I just unable to install application in it. The programme you refer to seems a SIM unlocking rather than a Application unlocking (at least in Smart phone forum they call the programme this way).

It developed some kind of fault recently. When I turn it on, it either switches off itself or enable to switch on. I have to take out battery for a while then I can get it up. Anyone give a hand? I did not install any software recently. Thanks!

I am new here. Recently, I took Runningtiger's suggestion to step into the water of PPC. Last week I bought an O2 XDA Mini S, (also called i-mate KJam/Qtek 9100/MDA Vario) and really impressed by its function.

Today, I tried my first application installation but failed. I download Adobe Reader 2.0 from its website. After installation, I got a warning saying 'installation is failed because this application has no proper digital signature'. This seems to suggest my XDA is application locked, as similar to my MPX200 smart phone. I used a application unlock program to install applications in smart phone. I would like to know if my PPC need similar programme and where can find it.

Thanks a lot

The Cingular 3125 is a really nice flip phone like you're accustomed to using. If you really want to dig in and "play", pickup the HTC Wizard (known here in the US as the T-Mobile MDA) and then click on XDA-Developers in the MobileGadgetNews Friends box in the left hand column of this page. They have tons of things you can "play" with on that device over there. Plus the different platform should give you something new to delve into.

I did exactly that, and liked playing around with the MDA. It didn't win me away from my i-mate SP5m Smartphone. But, I do enjoy trying things out on it and seeing just what it can do and how it differs from Smartphones etc.

Wings is a step up from either of these two devices though, for sure, and if you're in no hurry the GPS thing might be interesting for you to wait for.

When I had my last Xmas holiday in Far East, I had a chance to play Cingular 3125. It is called Dopod there. Very slim but not too far away from MPX220, I think. I t is a interesting idea to look at MDA (or PDA phone in UK?). I will have a look at the web you pointed. Thanks a lot!

If you read my thread from CTIA, you'll see some pictures of the SPV E650 aka HTC Vox. That's a sweet phone, well worth looking at. Depending on what your usage is, you may want to wait for the HTC Wings, but the Vox is a dang nice phone. The Motorola q9, seen here is supposed to be coming out sometime this summer as well. Another great option.

They are interesting stuff, especially Wings. I do not use my mobile phone a lot (actually very little). I just like to play with the new things.

First I have to confess I am a gadget fan and always looking foe something interesting. Couple of years ago, after I gave up my interest in old cameras, I started looking for something else. I, by chance, stepped into this forum and it really attracted me to Microsoft smart phone. After read a lot of threads, I decided to buy my first SP, MPx200. After explored its fun (downsides, as well) I felt a bit bored. So I moved to MPx220 sometime ago, as some of you recommended. Compared to MPx200, MPx220 does have a lot more and helped me killed a lot of time. Unfortunately, I feel bored of MPx220 now.

So what is your suggestion to me of my next Microsoft based smart phone?

Yes, that's ROM 1.28. I would highly recommend upgrading the ROM to a newer one. That's one of the older, buggier ROMs.

I juwtst got it for two days so have not yet found big issues, except I feel it is much slower than my MPX200 when switch off programmes using Resource manager. Are ther any way I can back up GPRS setting before upgrade? Thanks

The ROM version number you listed is the version of Windows Mobile you have on your phone, in this case 4 which is what WM2003's WM version number is. To find out what ROM you are running on your phone look at your Manufactuer version. That number is the ROM version you are running.

There is no camera on the bottom right side. That is your IR port.

In 'About', there is a line 'Manufacturer: 1.280.0.0'. That is ROM ver 1.28?

A question about ROM version. Read a few topic about ROM version. It seems you guys are talking about Ver 1.XX. I just got my MPX220 from eBay UK. It was a SIM free handset without SIM/app locking, as seller claimed. There is no operator logo. Its ROM version is 4.21.1088. I take this is Ver 4.21? Why is it so different?
BTW, how to use the camera bottom on the right side? I read the manual, not even mention this function.

My MPX200 can not switch on two days ago so I did hard reset. After that, the phone back to work but strange things happen.
Every time when I switched on the phone, I received two SMS. There were no other things inside, except a line like this: 0141 01360 01389 01355 and 0141 01360 01355 01236. They look like UK area codes (I am in UK). And when highlight the line and push action key (the big blue one), my phone asked me 'do you want to call this number?'. Anyone knows what they are?

You can flash it to any MPx200, regardless of the ROM is had on it.

Thanks! Someone said it would be better to backup existing ROM (SP2002), just in case the upgrade fails. What kind of software doing the job? Thanks again.

Well, the Mobile Operator screen at boot just means you're running an unbranded ROM. If you can put more than one carrier's SIM in the phone (O2 and Orange), the phone is unlocked. I don't know why a T-Mobile SIM wouldn't work in the phone, but if you can use both O2 and Orange cards in it the problem shouldn't be the SIM lock status.

Thanks a lot. It must be something wrong with the SIM.

My mpx200 was bought from eBay, with O2 setting. The logo of start up is a bit interesting, called 'mobile operator'?! It can use O2 and orange SIM card but not T-mobile. How can I find out if it is really SIM unlocked?
