I have it set to "manual" and the mail "disappears only when I go into the deleted items folder and deltee it again. Now, appearently POP3 should keep a copy on my server (so that I still see it on my PC when I get to the office) but once deleted from the phone and after a phone "send and receive" and then a PC "send and receive" its gone!

This only happens on the work A/C and not my other two personal A/C which are also POP3 - so despite my tech support - I suspect it to be the work exchange server settings and not the "norm" for the 8525.

QUOTE (abatis @ Jul 16 2007, 04:34 PM) *
On your phone Outlook setup what does this screen say for Empty Deleted Items? Not sure if that is where the issue is or not. Perhaps set that to Manually and see if they disappear on the server.

[attachment=3074:pc_capture3.gif]

Another thing to try is to just setup a Gmail.com account and use it
as the outgoing SMTP. The exchange server may be the issue.

Yes, thanks thats what I ended up doing - and it had changed - they said it was always that way but something on the ISP server changed! I now route it out through my work server and all is OK.

However: I have found this out - (please let me know if I have to move this to a new thread).

I do not let Active Sync "sync" my email due to it permanently deleting mail when I delete it on the phone but I still found mail getting permanently deleted from either the phone or PC when I permanently deleted from either one. In other words when I read an email on the phone and delete it I see it disappear from the PC by itself when I do another "send and receive" on the phone - its gone from thr PC mail box!

My tech support at the office did not believe this and was sure I had Active Sync for the email on - but I showed it to him. He came back later to say it was a function of the 8525 - strange I thought but that is what happens. SO even with Active Sync NOT syncing email, when I delete an email from the phone or the PC I loose it from the device I did not touch!

The mail on the phone is configured to use POP3 and the server uses Exchange 2000 (no push email)

So missing emails are now not a mystery but still a fact.

Have you checked to see if your carrier stopped allowing SMTP from outside the network or changed the SMTP server address to an ASTMP?

All you great problem solvers out there can you help?

I have a 8525 on a Cingluar plan and have two POP3 mail accounts set up on the phone. All has been working perfectly fine until yesterday when one of the accounts (my own ISP provider satx.rr.com) stopped sending any emails from the phone. I t gives me this messgae from System Administrator "Invalid Message Recipients" "Your email to XXX could not be sent and has been moved to the Drafts folder." Is this a message from the phone its self as it does not have the usual ISP stuff that comes with a ISP server error notification. To date I have done the follwing:
  • Checked the servce status of the ISP
  • Waited 36hours to see if it was some strange DNS error on my ISP server.
  • Sent mail sucessfully from the same account on the ISP's web mail
  • Sent mail sucessfully from my laptop's Outlook (which routes all mail through my work exchange server)
  • Deleted the POP3 mail account on the phone and set it up again
  • Checked that I am not over quota on my ISP mail account

Any help is welcome!

[quote name= Any insights about what causes it?

As a new Windows Mobile user (was a Palm Treo guy) I too was frustrated by frequent lock ups on my Dash.

I was told it was due to Windows, Windows, Windows!! - But more helpfully I hope, check to see how many apps. you have running. For some reason most of the stock apps don't have a exit option and you have to go inot the Windows Task Manager and shut apps down. This helped my lock-ups.

Hi, wasn't sure if this was mentioned before but I was wondering if anyone had experience on getting this to work. I really don't wanna have to keep checking my mail to see if I have new messages... thanks.

Hi, I did some investigating with our system administrator at work and we only have Exchange 2000 so I could go no farther. Push email on WM needs MS Exchange server 2003 I am told.

Thanks for all of your help. My usage is very similar - bluetooth when in car, no-wi-fi, etc. I have my email pushed from Exchange so it comes even more frequently than every 15 minutes. it is good to know that battery life is similar to others. I could keep it charged all the time by having it USB'd to computer but have heard that it is better for a battery to allow it to run down pretty far before charging. Is this true?

I am not an expert in modern batteries, but I heard that was true a few years ago. (it was all about the batteries "loosing memory" - ie some of the cells reversed polarity making that section un-chargeable.)

HOWEVER, it depends on the battery technology. I know for a fact my old phone recommended that the battery was kept trickle charged all the time and that running to empty was likely to shorten battery life. This certainly meant my battery lasted very well for 3 years.

I have not seen any stuff on th Dash battery but I keep it topped up as much as possible. Let me know if you find anything more out.

Thanks Runningtiger for the link to the HTC adapter. I ordered one of these also! This means I can listen to music on the plane with my nose canceling ear phones of choice (as you can't have BT turned on in-flight)

I'll post my thought on the dash here soon. I was a treo owner and have already found my likes and dislikes with the Dash.

Just to follow up on the HTC adapter. I got one and it works fine.

I had read on another suppliers' site that Dash users had experienced problems with the adapter. This works fine and I can use any headset with a 3.5mm plug. This is for media play back use and not for the phone functions, although the phone sounds that would normally come through the front of phone ear piece are transmitted into the ear phones. The sound that the phone plays on the main speaker on the back remain so in "normal" profile even with the ear plugs plugged in. So, in other words it does not force the phone into a true "headset" mode like the I.Tech S28 BT adapter does. I use the BT adapter (already reported on within this topic thread) when I want fill phone functionality and music in the headset.

I came across a text input problem with the Dash in an application I purchased this week; the QWERTY keys were putting in characters associated with the “Alt +” keys when only a regular key was pressed.

I thought you may like to have this information should you get a similar issue.

Here is what the software company said in their reply, which by the way, worked and fixed the error:

We have received a few reports of this problem with the T-mobile Dash so we've done some research on the problem. It appears that what you are facing is a flawed OEM.

This was found on the Internet:

>From an Engadget review: "XT9 predictive text engine for QWERTY devices
>would be welcome if it came with some easy mechanism for turning it on
>and off, but sadly it does not -- this was confirmed with a number of
>other Dash
users. Our Dash's XT9 would turn on for entering addressees in emails, but would mysteriously turn off when moving to the subject or body fields. Despite a few resets, the problem persisted; it\'s impossible to engage and disengage at will, something we're hoping they'll fix sooner than later."
http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/11/t-mobile-dash-review/

But wait! It gets worse! It appears as though the OS control of the input method which I use is ignored by the OEM's modifications and extensions to T9 (called xT9 in the Dash): "...the OS allows a programmer to set the input mode and the xT9 stuff ignores it..."
http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/v...tart=80<<

The flexibility given to the OEMs by Microsoft is leading to a lot of compatability problems. Our programmers are following all of Microsoft's rules.

We are continuing to investigate this issue with the expectation that we will find a work-around to this problem. In the meantime, we received some information from another DASH user that should be helpful.

1. in PocketBible Options: uncheck "use T9 for input"

The next time you need to do text entry:

2. type "alt" and "space" together. This brings up input mode.

3. select 1, "XT9 English"

Now you should be able to use the QWERTY keys directly.

Let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Two days is decent battery life. I've never used a Dash, so I don't know the standard life, but 2 days seems about right. I've had a few WM Smartphones that had that same problem with monitoring battery life.

I active Sync with bluetooth a few times a day and generally keep the WiFi off and have my phone pulling email every 15 mins

With this prifile I only get about 2 days battery life.

Now with my old Treo 600 it would go on for about 3-4 days (with a 3 year old battery!) granted, it did not have the power draws from BT and WiFi

So I think you have got an OK battery.

It is a .cab file. You need to copy the file over to your phone (i.e. to the start menu). Then press start and execute the file. Once it is installed the .cab will delete itself and dissappear leaving the program on your phone.

Thankyou!

Very simple - for some reason my PC forced the file to only open with WinZip - hence my confusion.

Thanks for helping to make this such a useful forum

not sure if I have done something wrong or am technically challenged! But have downloaded the preview onto my PC but how do I install it to my Dash or pc? Nothing seems to happen and it appears not to be a self extracting app. My pc sees the downloaded folder as a ZIP folder - is this correct

Any clues to get it going?

thanks

I was just about to post about this myself. I just downloaded it a little bit ago, and just spent about 2min with it and WOW! Smartphone owners, this is what we have been missing. Granted I only tried it with a word doc I have on my phone, but it is pretty cool on what all you can do with it as far as editing. It is also much more "readable" than using Clearvue as well. Honestly it will break down a word document in a format similar to programs such as Orneta Notepad. I am very curious to see what the pricing will be for this. Depending on price, this could very well become a must have. I will play with it a little more concerning excel and power point (two more things I find to be very handy at my fingertips). This almost completes the package for me concerning the smartphone platform. Now I just wish Landware would hurry up with their smartphone version of pocket quicken (heard that they are finally working on one wink.gif)

This is good news - after using Documents To Go on my Palm for a few years I was disapointed with Orneta Notepad - it is no way as good as DTG in my opinion. I look forward to getting it so I can edit Excel and Word on the go.

It is alphabet soup around here sometimes ain't it? TCPMP is The Core Pocket Media Player and it is preferred by many over the built in wmPlayer. I think it handles more formats is why some prefer it. I prefer it 'cuz it's more customizable and it handles stream drops better than the built in player. TCPMP is able to pickup a dropped stream and repair itself many times, where wmPlayer just seems to give up. I find it easier (more intuitive) to use. It just works the way it seems like it should.

Thanks, learnt something new! I visited the TCPMP site and had a look around. Is there a version you have to download for Smart phones or do you install the same app on the PC as well as the phone?- Perhaps this should go under a new thread for media players - not sure.

That's good news! Thanks for following up!! I understood you to say you ordered the non-BT adapter as well. I look forward to hearing how that one works too.

Which player are you using on your Dash (the built in wmPlayer or, some other)? If you're using TCPMP, can you use the entire qwerty keyboard as hotkey assignments?

I listen to music a lot on my phone and have assigned hotkeys and use them all the time. I've been trying out a PPC device and really miss being able to control TCPMP this way (very limited due to the minimal amount of keys available). I've sort of turned my attention to the Dash and have been wondering about this issue. I've also been wondering if the BT AudioToggle programs work with it (transfer all phone sounds to your BT earpiece)?

Have you tried either/both these things?

I am sorry, runningtiger I don't know what all the abbreviations you have used mean. But if I understand you correctly I confirm the following:

Yes I am only using WM player on the phone. - (what is TCPMP?)

I have played about with the CLIP S38 while listening to music and doing other functions on the phone. As far as I can tell all the system and phone noises are transferred via the CLIP S38 to the speakers at a lowered volume.

I did notice that when another function on the Dash was performed that produce a system noise such as an Active Sync (with the USB cable) while listening to music the mute of the music was not immediate and crisp - it kinda went mute with a slight loss of signal and then the system noise was heard - and it went back to music. The point of saying all this is - that if the system tone or alarm is very short - for example when being prompted to speak a voice tag if initiated while listening to music directly from the CLIP S38, then the time to mute and hear the beep prompt is too short and sometimes I did not hear the beep prompt, or it did not sound. So when riding my bicycle (when I can't see the Dash screen), on this particular function I just had to press the button on the CLIP S38 to make a voice tag call and say the name - assuming I was prompted - it worked each time
however.

Thanks - This information is perfect! I in fact got a later model of BT earphones, the i-Tech ClipS38 Bluetooth Stereo Headset Adapter for $34 on ebay http://stores.ebay.com/x1387 - I hope these will be good and will be compatible with the dash - should be. It provides both music and phone functions on the BT clip.

Well since my last post and the help received from this forum I have in my hands the cool little BT stereo headset adapter by I.Tech. As I said last time I managed to get the newer model, the CLIP S38 on ebay and I found out after looking at the I.TECH website that the S38 is a non US model - but this is because it comes with a UK / Japan type power plug for the charger - BUT this was no problem as the EBAY store puts an US / UK apator in the packet anyway.

Well I opened the box and it has everything you need:
  • Headset Charger
  • USB headset charger
  • neck sling thing to hang the CLIP S38 if you wish
  • mono ear piece
  • stereo ear piece
  • driver cd - never used it though
  • clear instructions in english
  • instructions in japanise!
  • CLIP S38

The pairing was so easy and worked just as the instructions said.

Once charged and working the quality for me is good and range fine about 30 ft.

The buttons work well and the pairing all works well with the Dash. The Dash puts the correct (headset) icon on the icon tool bar while connected and voice tag call can be made thru the CLIP S38. Music mutes automatically when a call comes in and music resumes once the call ends.

All in all this worked as the box said! And the Dash seamlessly paired with the S38. I tried turning the S38 on and off and the Dash BT on and off and each time they paried without any issues, although I found that the Dash BT hand to be on first before turning on the S38 for a more consistant connection. This is just what I wanted and I can plug any of my more expensive 3.5mm headsets into the CLIP S38.

Excellant value for $34 +S&H I think.

I haven't seen anything yet for the proprietary HTC mini-USB (as opposed to standard mini-USB). In the meantime, there are BT headsets as well as BT adapters that allow use of standard headphones. For an example of that kind, check here:

I am wondering if anyone has located an adaptor / 3rd party earphone or mod that can be used with the Dash.

I find the earphones supplied with the dash uncomfortable and prefer the in-ear buds.

I found one seller of mini USB to 3.5mm adaptors on Ebay but his site stated that he had heard this adaptor did not work with the Dash (HTC mini USB)

Apart from cutting the earplugs off and re-fixing ones I like I am without any ideas.

Anyone have a fix?

Thank you
