This looks handy but how well does it work plugged into the back of a computer or the front of the computer? I would think the weight of the device would render this useless.

Looks cool. Anyone of you americans with cingular planning on ordering one?

I was until I saw the blackjack came out on the same day. I decided to try out the blackjack since this is a "revision" of the 8125 and although the 8125 was a good device... I missed the "one handed" functionality of a phone.

After using the Blackjack for 12 hours here is what I HATE about it.
  • DPAD SUCKS!
The DPAD is horrible. If you have big fingers (and maybe even small ones) when you try and use the DPAD you will find yourself pressing other buttons.
  • Battery Life is Horrible
Using it from home on my way to work (45 mins) my battery went from 100% to 40%. I think this has something to do with bad 3G coverage in my area (west phoenix). I was wondering why they included two batteries with the device. Now I know why.
  • The Phone Gets Hot
During my 45 minutes of playtime during my commute... the phone got very warm.
  • No Light Sensor
Since there is no light sensor the keyboard backlight are always on when you are using the device. This to me is a big power waster.
  • Hard to Dial numbers in the dark
This will get easier the more you use the phone. Since the numbers are the same colors as the letters (while the backlight is one) it is not as easy to dial numbers as it is on the Q.
  • Stupid proprietary Power/Sync Connector
I hate this when companies think they can make me buy their accessories by making proprietary crap. It ends up pissing me off and usually jumping ship to the next non-proprietary device.
And What I like about it.
  • Screen Looks Awesome
I was worried about the screen size but overall I am happy with it.
  • Keypad works well
Even with my fat fingers the keyboard works pretty well.
  • HSDPA is fast
I still get a lag when I first go to the pages but that might be because I am using the $19.99 data plan.
  • Small and Light
I can't believe how small this device is. It fits well in my hand and doesn't feel like a brick (those of you who had the 8125 or now have the 8525 know what I am talking about.
Overall it works well. I do however think I will probably "Jump Ship" to the Treo 750w when it comes out. The main things that bug me are the battery and the DPAD.

This might help you guys but I am not 100% sure. Maybe it will give you some more info to find the proper registry key.

Using Microsoft Voice Commander on the 3125 the "Announce" feature also has the same issue. When the phone is closed it broatcasts on the internal speaker. For me this is perfect because I don't want everyone in the world to know who is calling me but for others it was a PITA.

If you look here - http://www.howardforums.com/showpost.php?p...mp;postcount=84 you will see some instructions on how to make MSVC broadcast on the external speaker.

I am not sure if this will help or not but figured I would post the information anyway.

I am also doing bluetooth dialing on my 3125 and Jetware installed. I do believe the basic MSVC functions work in the "free" version after the 30 day trial, but I will find out on the 3rd!

I just upgraded to the 3125 today, and unsolicited the sales rep told me Nov 1 there will be insurance options from Cingular for the phone that we can buy if we choose.

Anyone heard of these new insurance options?

Ill download it and try it out.

For the people who already have....

can you set it to automatically record all phone conversations?
Is it possible to save these conversations to a memory card?
How much space do they take up?
What is the sound quality like on the playback?

It looks like a great app but no trial AND a $40.00 price tag prices me right out of their market.

I am using a customized ROM. I am really happy with it so far, best of all, there is no Cingular extended ROM. I am keeping what I have.

Let me guess. Customized by summiter?

I am keeping the ROM update already have with direct push and AKU 2.0......besides I like the new COM manager and the battery notifciation at the top.
[attachment=2180:attachment] [attachment=2182:attachment]
When someone gets the Cingular ROM installed please post some screen shots and some info on how it runs compared to the previous ROM. Thanks smile.gif

I to like the battery icon at the top but the one they use is just plain stupid. It tells you when your 100% - 60%, then 60% to 30% (I think) then when it is critical. I like to see exactly where my battery is at. : Pets WisBar Lite : biggrin.gif

I hope Cingular gets a GSM version (crosses fingers for UMTS) soon. I will seriously think about ditching my 8125 and going with the Q since I don't use the touchscreen much. The lower data prices will be awesome since smartphones are currently (key word) fall under the $19.99 unlimited use plan.

I might trade my 8125 in for the GSM version of this when (if) they come out with it... depending on price of course.

As speeds get faster I can see quite a few users hosting pictures that they took on their phone for people to navigate to and view. I don't think I would do it personally but I am sure there are those users out there.

I don't think this is a good idea. It opens up the cell platform to a wide range of viruses.

I think they are talking about Sync'ing OTA when you have a PPC/SmartPhone.

I use the Cingular 8125 and "cheated" by using one of the rom's off of xda-delopers. The rom has made the phone MUCH better in overall speed and functionality. The Push Email option is awesome.

I probably would have sold the 8125 and went to a 2125 if I wouldn't have switched ROMs. The experience before the switch was starting to annoy me.

I was thinking this could almost replace my HTC8125 but with no 850 band it almost kills it. Here in Phoenix we don't use the 850 band but if I travel somewhere else I don't want to get no signal. sad.gif

Well, I don't know if the Windows key is a supported button remap on the 8125, but on the Treo 700w I can go to Start/Settings/Personal/Buttons and map which button I want to perform which task. The Start button on the Treo is mapped to the Assignment <Start Menu>. Does this also work on the 8125?

The "Buttons" option is there but unfortunatley it doesn't list the start menu dry.gif
