Are these still the best balance in small form factor and affordability for flip smartphones? I have a htc touch but I just want something I can throw in my pocket and not worry about the screen or the bulge.
Thanks guys! |

Hey guys, I stopped in a local Cingular store today to see if they had the Audiovox SMT 5600 in stock and was told that they had received one and that the resident gadget freak on staff had been playing with it. I asked if it that's what it was for (for them to learn on) and was told no it's for sale.
Asked how much for a existing customer and was told with 2 year extension it's $220. I have yet to migrate to Cingular so I'll probably do that and get the phone at the same time. Hoping to get two when I do, an extra one for the wife.
Anyway just wanted to let you know it's out there. So hopefully it shows up in a store near you if you're interested. I'm in the D.C. area by the way. |

That's a bummer. I'm not really sure how they could ask them to stop selling them though. If that's all the t-shirt said and there was no likeness of Paris on the shirt, they should have been well within there rights. Unless of course it had something to do with how they were actually promoting or marketing them.
I can understand why they'd give in though, but it sounds like some bullying tactics to me. |

I ran across this on some site. Has anyone seen this yet? I wonder if it could double as a checkbook or an eyeglass case! http://www.mobileplanet.com/private/covert...p?unit=IMAT_SP3Just kinda seems lazy and unimaginative to me. But maybe it would work for someone. |

I already have ATT and am still under contract with them. Not looking to extend that contract for another two years either.
They've sucked so bad in my area that I will never go into another cellular contract with anyone! Much better to pay for the phone out right in my opinion.
My question is where do these phones on Ebay keep coming from? Just when I think the source is drying up, I find more listings. I haven't been in to Cingular lately to see if they still have them, maybe I'll give them a call today. |

I've been kinda watching them on ebay for a couple weeks. I guess I'm missing those deals. The ones I see are always $275 to $300 by the time they close. If I wanna pay that I'll just get one at Cingular.
Actually I'm not sure that they are carrying them anymore. I know they were for awhile right after they changed to Cingular.
I need one of these bad! Already shopping for a GPS receiver for it.
Can't wait to get my hands on one! |

Cool. Thanks for the feedback smeg36 and gryph0n! Soon as I get my phone I'm gonna try to get a GPS receiver.
Been shopping for the phone on Ebay. They've been going a little high for me up til now. Xmas rush should be over now, hopefully I can get a good bid in. |

Hi smeg36. Bluetooth, didn't think of that! That should make for a cleaner setup then I would think. How do you like the Mapopolis program? Are you considering getting a receiver, could you see it working as a functional GPS option?
Thanks for your replies. |

Happy Holidays everyone! I was curious to know if anyone is running a GPS (global positioning system) setup on their 5600.
I've been looking to get a GPS unit for a long time and now I'm shopping for a 5600 and the thought hit me why not see if the phone could do both.
I have seen some info on the net albeit not very indepth that seems to indicate the 5600 is indeed capable with the addition of a GPS receiver.
I'm hoping someone here might have a setup going or could point me in the right direction for some more precise information.
If it matters the GPS unit I've been looking at is the iQue 3600, it's a Garmin branded Palm unit that's pretty small (which is a must).
Thanks in advance,
Kevin |

I have a friend that told me he's been wearing it around his neck. Made me think it was pretty small. I finally saw it at the store and thought oh my god!, he's wearing that thing on his neck! It looks kinda cool though. Just not as small as he made it out to be.
I'm still waiting for the Zoolander size phones!

Thought I'd chime in....my phone did this not quite 30 days into having it. I was able to determine that it was the phone and not the battery cause my wife has the same phone. I immediately sent it back and got another one from the online site I bought it from.
I've just been keeping my fingers crossed that this one doesn't flip out on me one day. Overall, this phone is great but I get the feeling that it was never quite ready for prime time. |

Ok. I wondered about this before. I took her number which comes through with the +1 (734) xxx-xxxx (international format I guess) and stored it that way in contacts and the call came through. Having also fiddled around in Settings|Phone|Call Options, I went back and removed the +1 in the contact information and now it comes through no matter what.
Hurray! Still not sure what I ultimately did to get this number to ring through but I am pleased nonetheless. Just have to do it for others if they get forwarded. |

There's not a lot of variables, at least that I'm using. I'm using the standard profile with the settings as I mentioned before 1 and 734. Then I have Without Number and Unknown Caller checked.
Trying to get rid of unwanted solicitations and calls for some lady named Diane who I figure gave out this number falsely or had it before me. I'm getting more calls for her than for myself at the present.
Thanks for the feedback gryphon. |

Yeah I know, thats why I was asking for working settings, thinking maybe I've not got something setup properly either in Smartfilter or in settings on my phone.
I put in 1 for country code and 734 (my area code) as the provider code.
Could it be the way I'm storing my phone numbers? I'm storing them in the standard "(xxx) xxx-xxxx" format. I'm at a loss.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Could someone share their working settings for this program on ATT service?
I have it on but it blocking mostly everything other than local landline calls like my house for example. It even blocks my wifes calls from her cellphone to mine which come through as "+1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx" on ATT network.
Thanks in advance,
Kevin |

Just installed it to and went to run it and got a alert saying that the "smartphone is not fully unlocked......" Has anyone else experienced this? How should I proceed?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give,

No I haven't tried Bejeweled. Need to get a SD for my phone so I can install at will. For now I'm gonna put on my Photo Contacts that I got when I subscriber and chill out for awhile. |

Slacker, I've reread both of my posts and again, nowhere did I place blame on Sprite Backup. I even went so far as to say "the success of all backup programs is directly proportional to the diligence of the person doing the backing up." If that's not admitting my own fault, I don't know what else to do. You certainly missed the jovial nature of my 1st comment regarding the self-inflicted damage that I could do during the trial and error phase with my new phone. Hopefully you can reread and pick that up. Kevin |

Hey Slacker. I have used it, but the success of all backup programs is directly proportional to the diligence of the person doing the backing up. Simply put if I'm not backing up frequently and certainly if I don't get a good backup, before I start "jacking stuff up." The program isn't going to help my situation. I said nothing about the integrity of Sprite Backup only about the integrity of the files and state of the OS after I'm done with them. That's what the "Twisted Evil" smiley face was for. Hope that makes sense. Sprite seems to be a good program, my only critique of it might be in that when I'm restoring, I'd like to be more specific about which components of the system and/or personal data is restored. Maybe this is possible and I just missed it. But for me it's not a problem to reload the system as necessary. That's just my PC laziness carried over. Been doing this stuff too long. |

Hey just wanted to comment on the fact that I've been putting my MPx to the test...trying out all kind of software, even taking a chance to see if some pocket pc stuff will work. (Most of it hasn't by the way) Screen is usually off. Anyway, I've done a master reset like 3 or 4 times now. For the most part the only important stuff that I need to keep is my contacts and calendar and since Outlook keeps that, I'm fearless when it comes to reseting this thing! So for those of you out there losing storage space, performance on botched installations (imagined or not), remember that the master reset is your friend! I have fiddled with sprite backup but don't trust the integrity of the files after I'm done with them  So a reset is best for me. Gives me peace of mind. |
