Hello all,
I purchased a SMT5600 from AT&T just before Cingular aquired them. I've stayed with my AT&T plan as it suits my needs better than any offerings from Cingular. I've got unlimited internet and at the time it was way cheaper than the unlimited cingular plans..

Anyways.. onto my issues.. My SMT5600 was showing it's age and was starting to drop calls and it rattled. I think something inside got damaged somehow. I upgraded to a T-Mobile SDA. I've sim/app unlocked it and performed lots of upgrades/modifications to it based on wonderful input from members of this site. I cannot, for the life of me, get voice tags to work with the SDA. I really used this feature on my SMT5600 to dial people on my contact list while driving. My SDA can't understand me.. has anybody else encountered this or knows of a fix? Also- I have Sprite Backup for Smartphone v.2.1 which says it's "Current release - Sprite Backup 5.1 for Windows Mobile 5 \ Backup to PC".. but apparently it isn't. According to Sprite Software it does not work with Windows Mobile 5. Are there any other alternatives that actually work? I would also like to edit the registry somehow so that the SDA will show if it's on EDGE or GPRS. I've read somewhere that T-Mo locked it in the registry so that it will only show the "G" icon all the time (edge or gprs) becuase their network isn't completed. I'd like to see the "E" if possible.

Other than these small issues, I love the SDA. Its' a great upgrade from the SMT5600. The screen resolution is a real knock-out compared to the 5600. The addition of EDGE and WiFi make the SDA an awesome phone. My SDA immediately linked up with my linksys wireless-g router w/o any need for registry edits as well.

Thanks

I'm not sure on all the other questions, but Sprite for WM5 Smartphones should be coming soon. If you have a previous version they will give you a discount. There may be one or two other companies with backup software, but none are worth mentioning compared to Sprite.

As for the ability to see "E" you're correct, there's a way to make it possible but there's too many hoops to jump through to make it worth its while. However, if you go to any internet connection metering site (i.e. 2Wire's: http://www.2wire.com/?p=154 or Texan's: http://www.texan.net/speed.htm) you can tell if you're receiving Edge data speeds (in the neighborhoods of 130+kpbs). Edge is very prevalent in downtown cosmo areas for T-Mobile as is Cingular.

My i-mate SP5m (same as SDA) recognizes my voice tags without issue. It works soooooooooo much better than the voice dialing does on my Motorola MPx220. Drag yours isn't working so good.

Regarding the E for edge, go here: http://surrealnetworks.com/mpx/SDARegEdits.htm and find "Enable EDGE Icon 1.1KB" cab file about half way down the page.

I haven't used it myself, so I'm not vouching for it, but the cabs I have used from that site have worked just fine.
