Thanks, Smeg. I found how to change them and your post will help if I decide to disable them in the future. smile.gif

Is there a way in the registry to turn off (or adjust the volume of) the sound that plays during startup and shutdown?
*
Never mind. I found them.

Startup = HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Sounds/SystemStartup
Shutdown = HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Sounds/Shutdown

I have a love/hate relationship with my MPx220. I had a silver one that had the common charging problems where it would only charge through the USB cable. It had charging problem, sync problems and wouldn't work with any desktop charger. The only way I could get it to charge (or intermittently sync) was by plugging it into the cable. Very frustrating! I have since purchased a black MPx220 and haven't had any of those problems.

The phone itself is nice and feels good in the hand. The only build quality issue I have (other than the charging issues with the first phone) is the battery cover. You have to be extremely careful with it or you'll break the tabs. It also has a loose fit to it. Reception seems a little flaky at times as well, but it hasn't been a big problem for me.

The thing I love about the phone are Windows Mobile and sync'ing my contacts, etc. I like how the Speed Dial and Contacts work. The games I loaded (PacMan, Tetris, TokiTori, Tennis and Soccer) are pretty cool. The biggest thing I like about it is Windows Media Player and using it as an MP3 player. This feature alone makes me overlook it's shortcomings.

I had a full-blown PDA phone and like the MPx220 better. I don't use the Internet services so a flip-phone (smaller screen) works better for me. If I was in the market for a new phone I'd probably compare other phones and options, but I like the MPx and would probably come back to it.

Like I said, though, be real careful and ask about the charging issues if you're buying one from someone else or on ebay. Make sure they'll take it back if you find it doesn't charge and they didn't disclose it on their auction.

Can anyone help us change our external LCD?  And remember, I'm just a newb.
Do you want to fix the menu problem or just change the Ext. image? If you just want to change the image, then you can connect up using Activesync and copy a new image to \storage\mydocuments\extlcd\ and name it "space_thriller.jpg". There's probably a RegKey you can modify, but I'm not sure what it is off the top of my head.

In my opinion, the Space Thriller image is the best one and provides the best contrast to the white date text. That's just my preference, though. smile.gif

It looks like the O/S is messed up. I'm not sure which carrier you're using (one person with the same problem said Cingular), but nonetheless, it looks like you're running an old ROM version.

What I would do first is perform a hard reset on the phone (keep in mind this will wipe out any programs or contacts you have stored on the phone). You do this by powering off the phone, and then power it back on while holding down the big Blue Button. After you do this it will ask you if you want to format. Say, yes. It will take a little while to finish reloading - and it will also take the phone a little longer to boot up the first time you re-start it. Don't be alarmed by that and just let it boot up.

If that doesn't fix the problem, then I would recommend flashing your phone to a newer ROM. Cingular has version 1.43 avilable on the Motorola site and there are other Generic (non-Cingular) versions available as well.

Here's a link to the Cingular ROM Updater:
http://direct.motorola.com/ENS/mpx220_softwareupdate.asp

You'll have to find the others on your own since it's against the FAQ for me to post the links to them. You can usually find them by doing a Google search, though.

I was kind fo curious if I could load the Cingular ROM on my unbranded MPx220. I had a Cingular branded MPx w/the Cingular ROM and had good volume/reception. It had charging issues so I bought a black Unbranded MPx and wouldn't mind giving the Cingualr ROM a try...

Hmm... I wonder if this RegKey has anything to do with it...???

\HKLM\System\GDI\SYSFNT\

Underneath that there are 5 keys:
CS = 0 (case??)
Ht = 4294967284 (Height??)
It = 0 (Italic??)
Nm = Nina (Name??)
Wt = 400 (Weight??)

Has anyone ever messed with these?

I just flashed to the Asian 3.51 and I'm trying to get the fonts on the Start/Contacts (at the botom of the Home Screen) and Menu options fonts back to the way they are in the Generic ROM (which I think are Arial or Tahoma Bold). I tried Omega's FAQ and it's not working.

I've copied Tahoma regular and Tahoma Bold to the \Storage\Windows\Fonts folder, have made the RegKey of FontPath (pointing to that folder), and have changed every value in the FontLink to that path\tahoma.ttf, Tahoma. I still get the pipsqueak lowercase font! Argh!!!

The fonts on my home screen are fine, but it's the menus, etc. I want to change. Is there another reg tweak or something I need to change???

Just out of curiosity, what's the difference between WMP9 and WMP10? I've used WMP9 (for MP3 playing) for awhile now and it seems to work fine for my needs so I'm curious of what 10 offers that 9 doesn't??? Does it offer skins, better sound/playback, equalizer? Just curious... smile.gif

I have an unlocked MPx220 with firmware 1.47. When I try to make a registry tweak, it will let me see the value and change it, but it won't save it. I've tried PHM Registry Editor and Resco Registry Editor. PHM gives me an error messge "Unable to perform this operation" and Resco doesn't give me any error, but doesn't save the new value.

Background: This is new phone and I did a restore using Sprite from my old Mpx220, which ahd the Cingular ROM 1.43 (or something like that) on it. The new phone works fine and it restored everything properly. I'd hate to have to do a hard rest and install everything from scratch...

Any suggestions?

Is it possible to have my MPx220 call a modem and access the Internet? Basically what I want to do, is rather than use Cingular's GPS network (don't use Internet much so I don't want to pay for the service), I want to use my Earthlink dial-up. I don't want to use the phone as modem for my PC, want the phone to dial-up a EL modem and me be able to browse the Internet from my phone (I'll be on the road). Is it possible?

Hmm... CDW says they have them for $90.00 and that it "ships" within 4~6 days. I went as far as the check-out process and they gave no indication of it not being in stock or having a waiting period. I'm not sure I trust that information, though... I'd probably call them before making an actual purchase.

QUOTE (badbob001 @ Apr 15 2005, 09:43 PM)
So how does one get to this PUK state. I just got a locked MPx220 that I'm looking to unlock. Does it appear if I enter the sim subsidy unlock code wrong too many times? Or is it a second level of security to ensure the phone never leaves a carrier?

Am I going to get PUK or not?
*

I got it by typing in the incorrect "Unlock" code after only two attempts (it told me "Invalid password"). I got my phone from a friend so I'm not sure if he typed it in a couple times before me. Anyway, if you're confident you have the correct "Unlock" code, it should work and will unlock the phone after entering it. However, if you don't have the correct code or you type it in incorrectly and get to the "Unblock" prompt, forget it you're done. Good luck. dry.gif

Welcome to the crowd...

This has been a thorn in the side of many MPx220 users and it's really ridiculous Motorola hasn't put out of a fix or recommendation on it. It seems that once you get to this Network PUK screen on the MPx220, you're screwed and the only fix is to replace the phone. It appears you could get around this prompt with the MPx200, but not the MPx220 (at least no one has figured out how yet). Motorola probably has a solution (probably by low-level flashing the firmware or triggering some internal reset or something), but who knows for sure? In addition, people are confusing this prompt with the "Unlock code" prompt. They are two entierly different things (at least on the MPx220)!

Man, if I knew it was going to this much of hassle I never would have bought this freaking thing. As of now I have an expensive paperweight fully charged and waiting for some love. mad.gif

I'd be leery about using that site. It seems to me from reading the disclaimer at the bottom that they have more reasons to refuse processing your request and keeping your money than than they do to process it.

Does anyone have experience with calling Cingular for the unlock code? I just called Cingular today (I'm an AT&T customer) and reached a fairly knowledgable CSR. He noticed I wasn't in the Cingular database and asked if I was an AT&T customer. I told him I was, and then he suggested I call them for support issues. I then told him that I think I needed to talk to someone at Cingular because I had a Cingular MPx220 and I wanted the unlock code so I could use it on the AT&T network (I also told him I travel extensively). He then proceeded to ask me questions like - what the IMEI # of the phone was, my phone contact info., and where I got the phone. I told him the phone was given to me as gift (and it was).

He seemed fairly honest and said he submitted the request to the unlocking group and that it usually takes 2~5 days to get response back. He said he would call me back when he had the unlock code. Is this usual?

He gave me no indication he was doing anything other than submitting a request for the code, but after thinking about it, he may have been asking me those questions to look up and see if it was a stolen phone. I mean, he didn't tell me they had a policy against giving out the codes or anything and didn't really put up any resistance to it.

Well, I'm hoping he is just getting the code, but if anyone else has experience with this sort of call to Cingular, I sure would like to hear what you think and how your call/request went.

It's probably not a "internal antenna" issue. Most internal antennas work just fine. Most likely, your MPX is having signal problems because of the network you're on. Let me guess, you're on AT&T or Cingular... Am I right? If so, join the crowd (myself included). The problem is their tower/network system. This thread will explain it all.

http://www.mpx200.org/index.php?name=PNphp...iewtopic&t=2936

And no, you won't see drastic improvement (if any at all) with WM2003.

Is there any way to remove that darn HELP text at the top of the Speed Dial menu? It's basically useless and I like it disappear.

Thanks.

Slack,

Thank you so much for sending me the link. I'm probably overstepping my bounds, but could you send it again? I turned off one the instructed items, but found it was only for the site I was currently on (my email site)and not totally disabled as I thought. If you'd be so kind as to send it again I'll make sure to disable or install the dang thing before clicking it again. Thanks, again.

Regards

I'm hoping someone will provide me a link to latest generic firmware (U.S./English version) update. My MPx has been flaking out lately and I'd like to try the generic version. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!
