WOW! That is impressive! The HTC Wings (providing Cingular get it) will definately be my next device. Slide-out KB, Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, all on a Standard (Smartphone) platform.....what more could I ask for!

If Cingular DO pick this up, what are the chances of them crippling the Wi-Fi like they did with the 2125? Or will they let it go to T-Mobile because Cingular doesn't seem to want Wi-Fi on a Smartphone?

My bigger question is the 5-way Block Directional Pad listed in the specs......where is that? I can't see any Directional Pad (unless it is somehow incorporated into the number pad).

So it's not just me then.....

I have had my 3125 since they were first released, and I never had a problem with random reboots (that I know of!). However, in the past two weeks my 3125 has rebooted itself twice. Very weird because both times it was on but not being used, and had zero programs running in memory a the time (except for Outlook E-mail). Both times it was flipped shut, and I only noticed the reboot because I heard it make the startup sound, flipped it open, and witnessed the phone coming back up.

QUOTE (mmeee @ Sep 28 2006, 01:32 PM) *
I dont get signal at work, and in the past when i forward my number to another carrier i just put my smartphone on flight mode if i wanted to reference numbers etc.. does anyone know how to put the 3125 on flight mode?

thx

It's a little more work than on the 2125 or a PPC.......
You have to open up the Comm Manager from the Start list of programs (no shortcut key on the 3125), then push "1" to switch the phone portion off (Flight Mode!).

QUOTE (omega2008 @ Sep 14 2006, 08:23 AM) *
I paid 169.97 for the phone including taxes. That is pretty high....maybe you don't get that much of a discount or it could be a pricing error.

Actually, it did turn out to be a rep who didn't know anything.....Got a more helpful rep this morning, and mine is ordered (at an excellent price!!), and should arrive on Monday.

By the way, there are pictures now surfacing showing that the 1100 mAh battery does make the phone a little thicker, but I am happy with that sacrifice for an extended battery life. I'm sure that the 750 mAh battery is available from on-line retailers if one wanted a slimmer version. I'm not sure whether it would need a different backplate. Perhaps GrYphOn or somone else with a Smartflip or Qtek could comment on this.

omega2008....
What price did they quote you? They wanted +$400.00 from me!! That's ridiculous! I have a call in to be company's rep at Cingular. Since when is it cheaper for consumers than B2B? I don't think the rep I spoke with knew what they were doing.

It is now (finally) listed on the B2B website. I am having someone in my office order me one as I write this! Just in time as my 2125 had gotten a little wet, and the joystick was not working properly.

Well, it's still not available on the B2B website....I thought B2B was supposed to have access to devices BEFORE regular consumers!!

It's back up on their website.....same price!! It even has a link directly from their home page.

I have asked someone at the office to call b2b again for me.

Well, I just tried a Denver zip code, (and a SoCal zip code), and still nothing. Maybe it's a coverage thing? In the name of science and MGN research I am more than happy for you to send me your 3125 when you receive it, and I will test it's coverage here in the Tampa area. I will report back my findings in a year, at no cost to anyone (you know, interest of science and MGN research and all that!)

I think it was listed as "over 1100 mAh", which could well mean 1150. My one reservation about this phone was that the battery life under normal usage was supposed to be 1/3 less than the 2125. But with the 1150 battery, it is definatley going to be my next phone. Now if only Cingular would allow b2b customers to buy it!!

The Cingular specs also list a 1100mha battery as opposed to the 750mha listed as being in the Smartflip and other variations of the phone.

Not sure if that is true, but I am almost certain that the 128 meg ROM is true.

Also, I tried to order through b2b this morning, and couldn't. It now also appears to have been yanked from the main Cingular website as well.

This morning, the Cingular website had a page on the 3125 which was quickly removed. However, if you use the "Search" on their home page and enter "3125", you do get the following:

"Windows Mobile Smartphones - Cingular Wireless
... Introducing the Cingular 3125/3100 Smartphone with Windows Mobile ® 5.0. Windows
Mobile smartphones are the ideal productivity solution for both voice and data ... "

Unfortunately, the link takes one to the 2125 as they have obviously pulled the original page. But a release must be close!

** They have now removed that too! **

Yes, I tend to agree with Smeg.....I think that the marketing bozos messed up and don't know / understand the differrences between smartphone and PPC versions. It's sad when the companies releasing these devices know so much less than the users!! Verizon probably thought "Treo, Moto Q........same thing" and simply adapted screenshots of the Treo and overlayed them on the Q.

The thumb wheel animation definately shows a PPC 5.0 screen, with PPC drop-down menu. But have a look at some of the other screens as well.....they are all PPC screens, with the "Start" at the top left. Even down to the keyboard icon at the bottom of one of the screens.

It doesn't look like it is going to be running 5.0 for smartphones, but rather 5.0 for PPC. I know that the earlier mock-ups had the smartphone homescreen on them and this may have perpetuated the rumor. But to me, it appears to be running the PPC version with a scroll wheel instead of a touch screen.

We are loading SP2 for Exchange this weekend, so there is really no gain for me by experimenting with this ROM upgrade before them. But maybe I'll give it a try on Monday. I guess I can always try loading back the ROM from the HTC America website if I have problems.

Orange in the UK have released the AKU2 ROM upgrade (including MSFP....push email plus the added security) for the SPV C600. Anyone care to speculate on the potential problems one might have trying this out on the Cingular 2125? Or will they have some form of check that will abort the upgrade if your carrier is not Orange?

The link to the download is: http://www.business.orange.co.uk/servlet/S...d=1044129765401

Okay, this was bugging the ^*&& out of me, so I tested and tested, and I think I have the answer!!

I believe this is a WM5.0 "feature" but have only tested on the 2125 thus far. How the e-mail notification works is as follows:

- If you get a new e-mail, and have not touched the e-mail on your PC (Exchange Server), your 'phone will beep.
- If you then proceed to read, delete, reply, or affect the e-mail in some way on your PC (Exchange Server), the next new e-mail you get will NOT cause the audible notification on your mobile device.
- If you do not touch this next new e-mail on your PC, the following new e-mail will cause your mobile device to beep (you can do whatever you want to the e-mail on your device, the next e-mail will beep).

I believe this is some sort of "logic" that Microsoft have included with WM5.0 which tries to decifer whether you are working on e-mails from your PC, and therefore do not want to get bothered by the audible notifications from your mobile device. But once it "thinks" you are away from your PC (you have reacted to an e-mail on your device, or have not reacted to an e-mail on your PC, and a second comes in), it will use the audible notification.

It would be interesting to see of someone else has the same conclusions.

No, different SIM. We were on Cingular Blue (old AT&T) and had to migrate to Cingular Orange (major issues with them not being able to transfer us to the same/similar plan for data).

I also know that we are experiencing the same problems with the two 8125's that we have for testing, so I suspect this is something to do with WM 5.0

Smeg, I have experimented with the Messaging program running in the foreground, and have had it audio alert, and then not make a sound, within 30 seconds of two messages.

We have a couple of new Cingular 2125's in the office, that we are running through some testing. Both are exhibiting the same issue: When a new e-mail is received, the audio alert is sometimes played, but sometimes the 'phone remains silent (sometimes the "new mail" icon does not even appear!)

I never had this issue with any of our SMT5600's, and don't know whether it is specific to the 2125, or to WM 5.0 in general.

There has to be some logic to the problem (i.e. if you have another unread e-mail, you have the e-mail app open at the time, etc), but I have not been able to identify what the conditions are for the sound not to play.

Has anybody else experienced this? Or can anyone shed any light on this?

Sean,

I've wondered for a long time how you were the site founder, but "Member No. 2"?????

I found MGN through Google as well, and had been a long time reader of the site for info until I decided to register recently.

480 x 480 screens are a LOT more expensive (for now), and would probably put many devices out of the reach of the average consumer.

Yes....from Cingular laugh.gif

If you have a B2B account, they have been available since 02/06/06. If not, you will just have to wait until 02/20/06 (or just after), when they should be available on-line and in brick-and-mortar.
