DASH Yahoo Messenger connection errors-cant IM

Hi
Running WM6 on unlocked Tmobile Dash
My DASH says 'connection error please try again or check you settings" when trying to connect to Yahoo Messenger thru the installed OZ Messanging software on WiFi.
I can connect to Yahoo messenger by logging on thru IE browser via WiFi.
I was wondering if the OZ software is not designed to work with WiFi,and only with a service provider Data plan?
Both my phones do this
Also, when I do IM it goes to a PC instantly but in order to see a reply, I have to hit refresh to update. Is there any way around this?
