The Comm Manager screen is new and matches the screen shot you posted, Omega. I do not, however, have the battery indicator on the title bar???

I just downloaded the update and applied it to my phone. Everything seems OK so far and the Direct Push email is working nicely. Emails are showing up on the phone right about the same time they hit my Exchange Inbox.

Of course, MS's brilliance (read 'stupidty') never ceases to amaze me... while phone numbers no longer appear as hyperlinks in my calendar appts on my WM5 device, phone numbers DO appear as hyperlinks in emails!! Go figure!

Yes, copying and pasting seems to be the only way to do it!!! sad.gif Phone numbers in my calendar appts on my MPX220 used to appear as hyperlinks that would let me dial the number.... not so under WM5. Why would they ditch that feature????!?!!

If you're in Silicon Valley, I noticed Fry's Sunnyvale location has one on display, but the way it's setup, it's only in the open position.

AUTD = Automatic Up To Date
Exchange sends an SMS message to your phone that initiates the ActiveSync procedure, thus delivering email to your phone as soon as it arrives in your inbox.

You need to ActiveSync your phone while your PC is attached to your LAN on which your Exchange server resides. Under ActiveSync you can configure which elements of your mailbox (inbox, calendar, etc) are synchronized when you (a) connect your phone directly to your PC via the USB cable and (cool.gif what gets synchronized over the GPRS data network. For the stuff being synchronized over the wireless data network, you can specify a schedule. One of the options is to sync "Whenever new items arrive" in which case AUTD is used. Otherwise, you can have your phone sync every 5 or 10mins, etc.

It happened AGAIN! All of the sudden, no ActiveSync but it would charge... then the Qtip/rubbing alcohol thing and BAM!.. back to normal ActiveSync. This is on my MPX220... must be too much 'dust' in my pockets smile.gif

As for the SMT5600, that's got the miniUSB so I can't claim this will help. It did help me out with my 220 and hopefully it will help someone else.

AH HA!
I cleaned the connection on the phone as well as the end of the cable with some rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip. Now I'm getting consistent ActiveSync connections!

Thanks, Omega!

That setting is correct. ActiveSync was working fine since I got the phone and through all the ROM updates. The phone is current with the latest 1.43 from the Moto site.

It's only recently that this has started happening. Using 2 different computers, I've gone through uninstalling/reinstalling ActiveSync, hard reset of the phone, etc. etc. - a thorough troubleshooting of the problem (I'm an IT guy by profession)

Then all of a sudden the other day it works. Then just as suddenly IT STOPS!

Moving/applying pressure to the connection between the phone and USB cable doesn't seem to help.... maybe it is the cable.

Just wanted to see if anyone had similar problems/experience or any helpful info

WTF!!! So after a month and a half of no ActiveSync connectivity through the USB cable, it suddenly starts working. The only thing I could think of that was different was that Bluetooth was turned ON. I had thoroughly gone through troubleshooting the problem. However, I only have 1 USB cable currently. So either the phone or the cable is the problem.

So I disconnected my phone from the USB cable, used it for the day and when I returned home and tried to connect it, again it will only charge the phone. ActiveSync fails to work!

I had a strange problem... one day about a month and half ago, ActiveSync decided to stop working via the USB cable. The phone would charge when connected via the USB cable and I could use the phone as a modem, but for whatever reason, 2 different computers would fail to see the phone via ActiveSync. I figured it was a problem with the phone or the cable. I was waiting for someone to return my extra cable so I could test it.

Today I plugged my phone in to the USB cable connected to my desktop and all of the sudden, ActiveSync worked! The only thing different, was that my phone had Bluetooth turned ON. I hooked the phone up to my laptop and same results, AcitveSync now works.

So it wasn't the computers or the cable... Smartphone OS?? Go figure!!

$%*) Windows!

OK, it's not a bug really... it only seems to affect the SMS messages that are in my inbox at the time of flashing. I reverted to 1.39 and had some messages sent. Then after I upgraded to 1.43 I noticed the previously described behaviour in the text messages in my inbox. All new text messages seem to come in OK.

Now that I'm running 1.43, I've noticed a bug in Text Messages. When I go in to my Text Messages, I see the list of messages displayed as it normally should with the sender's LASTNAME <comma> FIRSTNAME (i.e. Smith, John) the date sent and the first line of the text message.

Then when I go in and read the Text Message, the FROM field changes to read LASTNAME <semicolon> FIRSTNAME <semicolon> (i.e. Smith; John;) so when I go to reply to a message, the TO field now contains LASTNAME <semicolon> FIRSTNAME <semicolon>. The semicolon is what separates multiple recipients in text messages and email so now the phone thinks I'm trying to send the text message to 2 separate individuals.

After upgrading to the 1.39 ROM, I've NOT had to reboot the phone in order to get an internet connection. I've got ActiveSync set to update only "when new items arrive". Previously, I had it set to update every 5 mins and that seemed to minimize the loss of connectivity as long as I stayed in the same area. I found that travelling any distance, i.e. moving between towers, almost always resulted in needing a reboot to re-establish connection.

It's only been 2 days since the upgrade, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

BTW I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area

Yes. I've setup a Windows Media Server connected to a standard DSL line and successfully streamed audio to the device. There were occasional interruptions as windows media player buffered the stream, but it worked surprisingly well. Of course, the constant use of the GPRS network will drain your battery pretty quickly!

Anyone experiencing problems in the Bay Area? Things were fine here in Silicon Valley when I first purchased my MPX220 but lately I've been experiencing poor service as described in this thread: loss of connectivity in certain areas; phone requires a reboot in order to re-establish data connectivity when moving from one tower to the next, etc, etc!!!

Found it!
http://www.msfirewall.org/exch2003mobilefe...3mobilefebe.htm

At the time I tried to setup Exchange 2003 ActiveSync, the 817379 article was being rewritten and wasn't available on the MS site. I finally found the above page which describes the problems with a single server environment and followed the instructions for the fix.

In a single server environment, you must create the new virutal directory. Small Business Server is already configured to work correctly on a single machine. With a generic install of Exchange 2003 on a single box, you must create the new virtual directory and have ActiveSync talk to it.

I've received several requests for info on this and I'm currently trying to find a definitive document. It has to do with the way the authentication works between Front-end and Back-end servers and ActiveSync and the Exchange virutal directories.

The microsoft KB article 817379 best describes the fix. At one point, I had a great document describing the issues and the resolution but can't locate it at present... still looking!

How is your Exchange environment setup? The optimal setup includes having a Front End Exchange Server and a Back End Exchange Server. If you only have 1 Exchange server, there are complications with the authentication. Check these sites.

http://www.petri.co.il/problems_with_forms..._activesync.htm
http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/5...9/MobileDvc.doc
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=817379
http://blogs.msdn.com/nickmac/archive/2004.../10/129376.aspx

You have to setup a new Virtual Directory to which ActiveSync will authenticate, specifying it in the registry. The links above should provide you with enough info.

Google "smartnes". This is the NES emulator for smartphone. I've never gotten the Super Nintendo (SNES) emulator to work on an mpx220.

Here's a good link for SmartVCS, the Atari 2600 emulator.
