Ok, thing is like this:

I have just bought my SMT5600 Its Brand new and its a big leap fordward from my old SE T630 (Great Phone Also... But Just a Phone). Im not decided about updating My Phone To WM5 since I think it works just about fine with 2003SE. I have seen a lot of reviews about the WM5 and I know it has a lot of Small "improvements" from 2003SE, along with its "Better" and More "Beautiful" interface. But beasides that and the fact that I could void my warranty (Does not matter to me due to the fact that Im in the caribbean and bought the phone in US); I need to ask a couple of questions so everybody answer me:

1- What problems I might find After Updating my phone to WM5? I have seen some repots about booting problems, camera drivers... but what else ???
2- Is the fuctionality of the overal experience affected in a god or a bad way???
3- Do you personally think its worth the risk ???

Thanks everyone for your help ...

Best Regards,

Sterling

I would recommend probably not doing it... Since flashing mine for WM5, I have had to re-flash and re-setup the whole thing 5 times. It's not a huge deal once you know the drill, it's just a pain especially if you don;t have a backup phone to use when your 5600 bites it and need a good flashing. (I have never been able to "hard reset" since the WM5.0 update, re-flash is the only option).

After everything I've read about getting an SMT 5600 to run Windows Mobile 5.0, it seems like the potential benefits are not great enough to outway the very likely potential pitfalls.

What's nice 'bout the SMT 5600, is that it's been very well tested and very stable with 2003 Second Edition. I've never run into a problem. I like that. biggrin.gif

I did it, and I don't regret it at all.

I wouldn't recommend it if you're a big camera user, or you need MMS.. but I'm not real big on either one, and I'd rather have the better interface. And as to the bugs I hear people having, I can't say I've experienced a single one.

I don't think it does. That is a really annoying problem. Someone that has used the WM5 update on the SMT5600, can you confirm that it is still there?

Wow.. I'm surprised not more people here have WM5 installed on their phones...

Does anyone know where else I should be asking? ie. other forums etc....?

I finally got my miniSD card and figured out the following:

0) I flashed my SMT5600 on Rogers to WM5

1) I tested with my bluetooth headset. and YES you can voicedial while the handset is keylocked!!!!!!!

w00t!!! I recommend everyone upgrade if they have the balls. WM5 is a bit slower, but the fact that all the PITA "features" that wm2k3 had are all corrected now.. I couldn't be happier.

Are you still running WM5 on the SMT5600? I have a strong need to have voice dial over bluetooth and it seems WM5 would do the trick. What image file did you use to flash the phone? I am on T-Mobile here in Texas. What steps did you take to get WM5 onto your phone?

Rick,
I just flashed my Audiovox smt5600 to WM5 last week, and it works like a champ. I only wish I'd done it sooner. I don't know if my image will work for the Cingular 2125; it seems to be specific to the smt5600 (HTC Typhoon C500). You're welcome to PM me for more info although I'm no expert.

Actually, I am running a SMT5600. I just flashed it and it is running fine except for one problem. I am having voice dial issues when connected to my bluetooth headset or my bluetooth Parrot hands-free system in my truck. Anyone have any tricks to help on this? I am running version 5.0 OS 5.1.1700 (Build 143343.0.0.0) custumized by ronswens v4.1.
