Not sure that I will be much help, but I have been running Windows Vista Enterprise on a Dell D610 for a few months now with WMDC Beta 3 and now WMDC RTW and my 3125 syncs just fine with my Exchange server both over the air and through the pass through connection. One thing I always do is to make sure the Mobile Device Settings, Connection Settings has that this computer is connected to The Internet instead of Automatic or Work Network. I don't know if this will help you but it has been a key factor for success since my first WM device many years ago. I think this is normally related to proxy settings at work, but I know that it has helped others at my office get their devices working even on XP with ActiveSync.

P.S. I have been able to browse my phone with the explorer and I have a few hundred MB of songs on my 1GB microSD that play just fine during my commute to work each day.

FrayAdjacent - I have a generic software load on my phone, not setup for any carrier. The versions are:
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14256.1.10)
Radio Version 1.00
ROM Update Versions:
Operator: 0.80.1001.0
Manufacturer: 0.340.0.0
Microsoft: 4.21.14256.0
Language: 0.150.10.0
File System: 4.21.14256.0

Hope that helps.

I just had an email conversation with the guy at Motorola that supplied the phone and he confirmed that this is a pre-production engineering sample so that may go a long way to explaining the issues I am having with the battery life (as well as another software quirk). I am still interested in FrayAdjacent's test to understand what we can expect if we decide to purchase some of these devices for our company. I guess my longer term testing will have to wait for a while longer.

Slacker - If you are running Exchange 2003 and have OWA published to the public Internet then the mobility features are turned on by default on the server. On the client side, you setup your phone to sync with your Exchange server through either the phone or ActiveSync on the desktop. The first time, you will not see anything about enabling always in sync. After you sync with the server, the device and the desktop ActiveSync realize that the server is 2003 and will either prompt you on your phone to use it or you will find that there is a new choice in the drop down on the desktop on the Schedule tab of Options for "When new items arrive". In both cases, you also will have to enter your device address information so that the server can send the special SMS message. This can be done on the phone or the desktop again and for me is of the form 1112223333@att.mobile.net. This is by far one of the coolest features of Exchange 2003 with a Windows Mobile 2003 client (both are required).

FrayAdjacent - based on your usage profile from after you leave work to when you go to bed, you are seeing much better battery life that I am. I have BT turned off and IR turned off as I do not use either. I have my 220 connected all day at the office to my laptop to let it sync over the network to save GPRS and to allow it to charge. My monthly GPRS usage is around 10MB so I don't think that is out of range of what might be considered normal. I would be interested if you are able to do a test and see what happens over a couple of days.

Thanks.

Because I have Exchange 2003, the server sends a special SMS to the phone when there is new mail between 6am and 9pm local time. The phone then does a sync. There is no timed sync enabled on the phone. I only receive 5 or so messages between the time I leave the office and 9pm.

I have been doing some other searching and I am wondering whether the devices I have tested are not actually production but some type of pre-production model that may not be indicative of the production capabilities. Anyone know what I can look at to tell?

I was wondering if anyone else can comment on the battery life of the 220. I have been using one (a loaner from Motorola corporate) for about a week now and I am finding that the battery life is terrible. I have it connected to my PC in the office during the day and it charges up fully. I disconnect at 4pm to start my trip home and I make no voice calls and only look at the Inbox 5-10 times during the evening (Exchange 2003 activesync delivers the mail). By 10pm the battery is at 50% and by the time I come down in the morning at 6:20am the phone is completely dead and without power. My old MPx 200 had at least double to triple the battery life of this unit. I have used two different 220 physical phones and two different batteries now with the same result in each combination.

Is this expected or not?
