I have an unbranded mpx220 so I can use it on t-mobile even though they never supported this phone. Perhaps some mpx220 cingular users that jumped to t-mobile?

Anyway, to show my mpx220 love, I've just posted instructions here:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php...01#post10133901
on how to use t-mobile's email trigger to get 'push' email working on the mpx220.

Man, who knew this much criticized device had so much potential and could serve me all these years.

So does this inboxextender.cab work on the mpx220 or not? I've tried it and I don't see anymore options in my menu, which already has options 1 through 9. Do I need to somehow remove/rearrange the standard menu to make room for the new options?

Simply put, the mpx220 does not support 2GB cards. Many many many people have tried it and failed. I myself bought a 2GB ATP miniSD card and ended up returning it for a 1GB card. Search the forums if you want to read about this sad tale.

Sometimes I get a call from UNKNOWN, which is usually a caller that has their caller ID blocked. Is it possible to have assign a custom ring for those callers?

Is there a way or utility to set the earpiece volume at profile change? Since I have the mpx220, I normally want the earpiece volume to be at max. But when I plug in a headset, I want the earpiece volume to be much lower. Any way to do this? Profiles have settings for system sound volume but I don't see a setting for earpiece volume.

Thanks!

QUOTE (runningtiger @ Nov 6 2006, 04:01 PM) *
Glad to hear it works for you Badbob. That's interesting that the one you got looks different than the one I have. Is your straight, or is it an elbow with a 90 degree bend? Also, what have you tried it with? (iPod, or something/anything else?)

It's straight and not a L. The actual body, not counting the 3.5mm male, is one inch. Also, the body is not uniform from end to end but the middle actually flattens, bulges out (like love handles), and has a textured surface to give it finger-grip. While I would have preferred a L adapter with a few inches of wire, having a non-wired L adapter would be weird since the headset already ends in a L. I've just tried it with my PC and laptop.

I managed to get a complimentary "replacement" for the adapter through Body Glove! The adapter they sent me doesn't look the same as the one I saw in the store. Instead of being a short wired adapter, it's just a solid one inch whitish adapter with a 3.5mm male end and a 2.5mm female end. But who cares since it works great and it's true stereo. Thanks for you help!

runningtiger, could you have bought this in the past:

Body Glove Earglove Sport Stereo Headset
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1118845619352

I was browsing bestbuy and saw the Body Glove Earglove Sport Stereo Headset, which has a four-circuit 2.5mm plug. What caught my eye is that it advertises as the ONLY headset that is compatible with both mp3 cellphones and mp3 players by including an adapter like the one you mentioned that allows the headset to work in 3.5mm jack devices. It has stereo earplugs, a call answer button, and three different color ear loops.

No idea if it'll work with the MM50, but if you had bought it in the past, then it would most likely be the source of your mysterious adapter.

Bestbuy had it for $37 but I see it online for under $20.

Seems pricey if I just want the adapter... but at least I know it exists.

So the adapter you found has a 3.5mm male connector on one end (for something like an iPod) and a 2.5mm female connector on the other end (for the MM50)? It's almost impossible to find any adapters that has a 2.5mm female connector, let alone one that has four circuits (three black rings).

If you get more clues on where your working adapter came from, that would be great. I was thinking that I would need to build this adapter myself, assuming I can find the right parts, but I'm not exactly mister radioshack... so I'm hoping my MPX220 has a long and happy life (and that I'm not too tempted by all these new devices).

Thanks for the great suggestion of the MM50. I thought I found what I wanted on ebay with an adapter that includes a mic and a call button, but when I got it, everything worked EXCEPT the call button. Darn! So I ended up getting the MM50 and everything works. I got it from a local shop for about $50 since online, it's so confusing since most site advertise it as being for Sony Ericsson phone even though the actual box only lists Motorola phone.

It's funny, but these are the most expensive earphones I have ever purchased since I've always had some set of earphone (good or bad) around if I needed some. I compared the MM50 with a pair of regular sony earphones through the ebay adapter and the MM50 blows it away.

Now I would want to extend my 'investment'. I guess it would be too much to ask for this headset to work in non-motorola phones. I wonder if there is some sort of adapter. But my most immediate want is to allow me to use the headset with regular 3.5mm devices such as an iPod. I went to Radioshack and got an adapter has 2.5mm female 3.5mm male connectors, but I get really loud audio on the Right channel and very faint or zero audio on the left. Ug. Is there a working adapter to do this? I'm not even sure of the pinout of the headset. I've seen the pinout for the MPX200, but I don't think the MPX220 has the same pinout.

Thanks!

I've tried a few wired headsets on my mpx220 and so far, the mpx220 doesn't respond to the call answer/hangup button. Is it even possible?

ok: I do see the HS120 (http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/5052.htm), which is a stereo earphone for the mpx220 with a call answer button. But I need to be able to use my own earphones since I need the type that blocks out external noise. Otherwise, I would have to kill my ears with the high volume and still have the audio muffled by all the outside noise.

Ideally, I'm looking for a headset that has a 2.5mm male plug (to connect to the phone), a working call button, a mic, and a 3.5mm female jack to support any standard 3.5mm headphone. Does such a beast exist for the mpx220?

Thanks!

I thought exchange activesync just uses port 443 (ssl). I can get to port 443 sites from pocketie... but pocketie is configured to use the wap connection instead of directly connecting to the internet.

Is the activesync component too dense to use the ie connection settings and is trying to connect directly? If so, any hack for this?

Hmm, doesn't look like the battery is replaceable.

Also, the Bluespoon Ax is about $40 - $50 cheaper and has a replaceable battery. Any specific reason this earpiece is better?

The battery life on the mpx220 is not the longest, especially if I use it like a pda (too bad I can't change the backlight to only use half-brightness). So I've been thinking of getting an extra battery. But I would need an external charge to make it pratical.

I've seen for sale a Motorola dual desktop charger on ebay:

Dual Desktop Charging Station - BDCA118/98599H

I think I've seen if for around $20.

Does anyone have experience with it? Does the battery bay support the mpx220's battery? Can I use the usb sync cable with it so I can charge and sync from the cradle AND charge the extra battery? I was thinking of putting the charger on a powered usb hub so I can still charge the phone / battery even if my computer is off.

cnn.cn sells a charger just for the battery which is only $7.:

Makes me wonder if I really need the cradle portion. Should I consider this instead? Too bad cnn.cn doesn't sell the dual charger since everything they sell is way cheaper. The same battery in a cingular store is three times their price!

Thanks.

On my MPx220, if I'm using GPRS, I don't receive any calls. After the default number of rings, they go to voicemail and I have no indication on the phone that an incoming call existed.

After some testing, it appear that calls don't go through if any gprs data is being transferred. Is this the same experience that everyone else is having? I get notified of another call when I'm on a normal call so I was hoping it would be the same.

I'm running Manufacturer rom 1.220.0.0. I'm also on T-Mobile. Do you think it may be carrier related?

Thanks.

I find Sprint's map far less useful and user friendly compared to T-Mobile's. No signal strength indicators. Can't really zoom down to the street level. Also doesn't work well in firefox.

QUOTE (smeg36 @ Apr 29 2005, 09:59 AM)
Please, for the phones sake, take the original plastic film off the screen!  It isn't meant to be a screen protector when the phone is in use.  Please, I emplore you, get a real screen protector for it.

What's wrong with the plastic film? I kept it on for my last phone. Is it going to eat into the screen or some other horrible outcome?

I'm a little afraid "accessory-creep" is going to get the better of me and I'll spend more on accessories than the cost of the phone! I'm already got my eye on the Motorola dual desktop charger [link] and an extra battery. My wife is looking at me funny since she says that nowadays people don't put their phones in cases since they change phones every year or so. But oh, my mpx220 is so much more than a phone! smile.gif

For giggles, I dropped by the local Cingular store. I wasn't expecting to find anything since I didn't find any MPx220 cases on their website. But I asked for one, I was surprised when one was brought out and it is the same one sold by Superior Communications. I guess it really is a Cingular branded case.

The back is pretty much the same as the Forward Innovations case, where there is a nub for attaching the belt-clip. The lid and main parts of the case are in two pieces and are attached together by a snap. So unlike the Krusell case, the connecting flap does bulge out when the lid is opened. The bottom piece stays on by wrapping clear plastic over the number keys. The top stays on by wrapping the whole screen with clear plastic. While I can get use to the plastic over the keys, I really don't like the plastic over the screen.

I still have the original protective plastic over the screen so I don't really need anymore protection. It's a flip case so the screen doesn't need much protection anyway. And I'm not worried about the buttons scratching the screen since the case prevents the screen from touching the buttons. BUT I do not like how the plastic sheet creates more glare, collects particles underneath, and create distracting blobs from where the plastic sticks and not slick to the screen.

The Krussel case is looking more attractive at this point. Does anyone know if the Krussel case covers the screen as well? How does the Krussel case stay on the phone?

Thanks!

So far, I have found three flip cases for the Mpx220. I just need some first-hand opinion on them since I don't think these are available in stores (I'm in the U.S.). I just want something to protect my phone from scratches and I intend to mostly store it in my pant pocket. I may use the belt clip, but it would be best if it were removable or unobtrusive.

Krusell Case, KR-C-MOT-86196, $24.95 at most places like: link
I like how how the belt-clip part is removable, but I don't like how the flip cover is held together by a thin piece of plastic that may tear or catch on something. The sides of the flip cover are exposed, so that is bad.

Forward Innovations, MOTFL-0826-K, $??.??
This looks to be Motorola branded case made by a German company. I can't find it for sale anywhere and I only see it in the company's catalog: link
I like this case since the sides are well protected and the belt-clip is removable. I don't really mind that the cover plastic covers the camera since the quality of the camera can't get any worse. Too bad I can't buy it.

Superior Communications, 44311CW, $21.99 at link
At first it looks like a Cingular-branded item and I almost went to a Cingular store to check it out, but it's just how the website is designed. I like this case too. There is less plastic on the cover so it may be more durable. The only unknown factor is the belt clip part since there is no rear view of it. So I don't know if it can be removed.

Given these choices, I would probably go with the last one (can't buy the 2nd one), but I would like to hear from anyone that may have experience with it. And if anyone has a better alternative, I'm all ears! I'm not that interested in the sideway cases since it's not meant for putting into pant pockets.

Thanks!

On my unbranded mpx220, the startup folder has the the following shortcuts. Contents of shortcut shown under filename.

ArcCallerID
26#"\Windows\ArcCallerID.exe"

MMSReg
21#"\Windows\MMSReg.exe"

RegerBAEPlugin
32#"\Windows\RegisterBAEPlugin.exe"

VSTBootStart
26#"\Windows\VoiceSignal.exe"

Any idea what these do? I've taken them out since some of them stay in memory. Was that bad? I suspect the ArcCallerID program is a third-part tool that allows the phone to display a matching photo for incoming calls. This feature will be incorporated into the OS in Windows Mobile 2005. I think VoiceSignal is to respond to voice commands.

No clue on what MMSReg or BAWPlugin do.

Thanks!

Most likely the SanDisk miniSD will be using MLC flashchips, which are more likely to fail. The representative from TeraVit has said that their miniSD uses SLC flashchips, which are more durable.

Another manufacturer, ATP, only uses SLC in their cards. I've contacted them and they said their 1GB miniSD may be available in July.

Here is some more info on SLC vs MLC:

Samsung on MLC vs SLC

another link

Bottom line: you can use MLC to get a cheaper price, but don't expect your data to be error free.

Sorry, but only gameboy (.gb) and gameboycolor (.gbc) games work. Some GB and GBC games may have an extension of .gba, but that's just a naming mistake and still doesn't make this emulator support gameboyadvance games. Even a 600+MHz PocketPC can barely run most GBA games.

There are some pretty good .GBC games, especially the zelda series.

Nam,

Does your 1GB miniSD card use MLC or SLC flash chips? I prefer SLC since they are more durable than MLC. ATP uses SLC and their 1GB miniSD won't be available until at least July.

Thanks

So how does one get to this PUK state. I just got a locked MPx220 that I'm looking to unlock. Does it appear if I enter the sim subsidy unlock code wrong too many times? Or is it a second level of security to ensure the phone never leaves a carrier?

Am I going to get PUK or not?
