that's a nice idea, but i don't have a PPC, or anybody with PPC around, so is there PPC emulator anywhere? dry.gif

You dun need to install to PPC to extract the files.
There's an app taht allows you to examine the cab file & even extract the contents in it actual format. The xml or inf file can be read & gives you idea where the files should be stored & if any registry entry needed to be added.
It's called the MSCEInf available here.
It'll be a lot easier & faster too.
Cheers!

Thanks for the reply! Someone actually helped me with flashing my phone to WM5 so i don't know much about it. I think i'll try the hard reset by choosing Clean Reg and Format Storage Option. Thanks!

Acutally, dun have to go through the whole process each time.
Just remove the SD card, format it in FAT using your Windows PC & plug it into the phone.
Turn it on & that's it...it's as good as a hard reset.
That's the beauty(or urgly?) part of this MPx200-WM5 setup...the part of the system that stores all the settings & profiles are loaded onto the SD card so whenever the SD card shows up as empty, the system simply recreates the entries (folders & files) & you're back in business.
Of course, it'll take longer than usual to boot the phone, just like the first attempt to boot the phone after the procedure mentioned above.
BTW, there's also an effective way to backup the phone, than using some paid software that might not be as effective.
Just plug the SD card into a card reader attached to a Windows PC, unhide all the hidden files in the card(or folder) & copy everything wholesale onto the Windows PC.
The next time your phone got corrupted by whatever, just copy the contents back to the SD card & it'll boot again (assuming the problem is software related & not hardware.)
Cheers! biggrin.gif

Sigh... I am stupid. While I was looking for Torx driver, I lost Mpx200 screws. Where can I buy similar screws?

I'll go with ardec1's advice...also, philips head (+) screws are more durable since the + shape adds strength to the head should the screws be difficult to remove & need force to unscrew...that way, the head wouldn't fray.
Just bring a sample down to a hardware/hobby store & have them find a similar metric size thread & length for you.

I bought it from this ebayer called "Wellcomchina" it costs about SGD$42 for the full housing with keypad inclusive of shipping.

It's really slow and the items are not here yet... however i will post soon when it comes.

PMed you my mobile number in case you need to contact me in S'pore. Maybe we can meet up some day to exchange notes.

I actually bought the full housing from a china ebayer before ardec1 could reach me. Now the only fear is it does not come with the power button or the IR cover.

The current condition of my MPx200 is terrible. Much corrosion and peeling that it looks abit sick to put it at your face. Yes that's how bad it is. But i thought if i could replace the housing, why not change everything? (maybe i'm perfectionist).

Now the only problem is... the housing has not arrived yet... it's been past 2 weeks and i'm getting irritated. I ordered spare batteries from some NY ebayer and gotten them only under 7 days. I'm getting impatient. Haha.

The Singtel cab file i shall try next day when i get to use the PC. Currently on Mac. Thanks again!

How much did you pay for the housing from China?
It's brand new right?
There aren't many around so i figured you must have bought it from thsame guy I enquired from.
The postage charges was very high so that prevented me from buying his item.
Re: MMS plugin, if you installed the correct one, it should already have the MMS plugin for the Default Home screen (called Windows Default(MMS)).
Rgds!

Thanks for all the trouble you took to get me the Singtel Cab file! Anyway i will post once i get it installed and working... However i did take note that to allow MMS count to appear on the home screen, a plugin is needed?

You should be downloading the MMS Composer cab file included in the link in this thread.
That version includes the MMS counter plugin for the home screen.
But if you have used a different home screen, then the counter may not be readily available until you select the default home screen with MMS option in the settings.
If you want the MMS counter in the custom home screen you installed, then you 'll have to open up the xml file that points to the home screen(browse to '\Application Data\Home\' in MS ActiveSync Explorer to look for the file) & include the entry for the MMS...it's only a few lines.
Copy the file to your PC & use notepad to edit the file then copy back.
That is what I did to achieve the home screen that you see in the post in this thread.
BTW, if you are still looking for a file explorer, Total Commande for smartphone is freeware & works on WM5 for MPx200.
You can download it here:
http://www.ghisler.com/smartphone.htm

QUOTE (dosada @ Aug 24 2006, 04:39 PM) *
I have tried all of that with no luck. I have even reflashed the phone. It all goes fine untll after the last image. When i remove and replace the battery and try to jard reset it it does not do anything. I have to remove/replace the sim so i can charge it. I have used another memory card for the update.
I have found a few places which had the ROMs but no one does anymore. Not even the original. Anyone any idea what else i can try?

Which brand & size of SD card have you used so far?
I've tried both Lexar 256Mb SD card & Kingston 256Mb SD card & they worked fine.
Check this...
1. Take out the SD card that you used in the two flashes that failed & see if there's any content in there.
I found out that I can pop in any FAT formatted SD card into the unit & it'll rebuild the system folders & files from ROM. This process takes awhile so that accounts for the delay between pressing the power button with the bootloader screen & the OS actually booting up with the MS Windows Mobile logo splashscreen.
If there are contents in the SD card, then chances are that your ROM image could be corrupted.
2. Compare the contents of the two cards & see if they match.
If one of the cards have more folders/files than the other, then the one with the lesser content would probably not be suitable for the MPx200. Many users in this forum has fedback about certain make & speed of SD card not able to boot the phone.
3. Format one of the SD cards in FAT format with default settings & pop it into the phone.
Start up & phone & wait for a while. If nothing shows on the main screen, then it a high chance your ROM image is corrupted. Did you connect the MPx200 directly to the PC or via a hub? Try connecting directly to avoid bus problems.
The fact that your Upgrade Wizard can detect the phone is some consolation..the phone is still alive.
Also, since the charging image on the front screen shows up when you charge the phone, that means the "BIOS" of the system board is still intact.
So...there's still hope...

anyone with spare power button and IR port cover to spare?

Acutally...these are more cosmetic than anything else...if you can live with it, just let it be.
If not, try getting hold of a can of silver model spray(those scale modellers use for their plastic/metallic scale models) & spray it over & coat it with an layer of glos finish to restore the shine (common method used to add silver finishing & gloss to scale models as well).
As for IR window (yes...it's deep red & not black as the Infra-Red beam will not be able to pass through if it was black), you can try using a littlebit of brasso to polish it...and i mean a little bit cos it can be very damaging if too much was applied (partly due to the fine abrasive material inside the compound that might scratch it even more). Use single strokes versus circular or wild brushing. Also, use soft cotton cloth, much like polishing silverware but lighter & gentler. That should do the job...but it's your call.
How's the SingTel cab file? Did it help?
I got my casing from ardec1 as well. The keypad was good along with the internal casing (dark metallic brown section).
Cheers! smile.gif

New findings!

I need not add any GPRS connections. By selecting "advanced' in the 'connections' tab, i have all the settings set to automatic.

All i have to do is set the arcsoft MMS settings to connect to 'The Internet'.

It works fine now but maybe you should send me the Singtel files that came with your phone as well for me to try it out too.

However, is there any way i can use Arcsoft and have MMS shown on my homescreen? Like i have the SMS bar that shows the amount of SMS i have recieved at the homescreen. There used to be the MMS status bar when it was back in WM2002.

Thanks alot!

below are the instructions i needed for me to get my MMS to work from configuring connections > GPRS.

Instructions:

1. Press Programs > More > Settings > Data Connections > Menu > Edit Connection
2. Select GPRS Connections
3. Press Menu > Add
4. Enter Description IDEAS MMS
5. Enter Connects to MMS Connection
6. Enter Access Point e-ideas
7. Enter User name 65<Your Mobile Phone no.> eg. 6591234567
8. Enter Password <Your IDEAS account password>
9. Enter IP Address 165.21.42.84
Press Done and Home button to go back to main menu.
10. Press Programs > More > Accessories
11. Select MMS Setup > Profile
12. Press the right soft key (Profile) and Edit
13. Enter Profile Name <Your preferred name> eg. IDEAS MMS
14. Enter MMSC http://mms.singtel.com.sg:10021/mmsc
15. Enter Data Connections <Your MMS Connection> eg. IDEAS MMS
16. Enter Gateway WAP 2.0 Gateway
17. Enter IP Address 165.21.42.84
18. Enter Port 9201
19. Press Done and Home button to go back to main menu.

The problem for me:

I could not get step 5. done.
There are options to select connects to Secured WAP Network, WAP Network, Work, The Internet, but not MMS connection. The MMS connection selection was available on WM2002 but is missing for my WM5.

I'll try to dig out my MMC card bundled with the MPx200 to see if I can find the SG-Singtel.cab file for you.
This should solve your problems.
Meanwhile, if you can get your hand on a SG-XXX.cab file for other Service Provider, you can unpack the file & look for a .xml file.
Inside, you'll notice the registry settings for creating the MMS Setting entry in your profile.
Cheers!

I'm using Singtel (SP) and i do have the instructions to set my MMS. There is an option when you set the GPRS. They have the Secured WAP, WAP, the Internet and also MMS. I went from start> more > settings > connections> GPRS> Add, but under the Connects to panel, i could not find the MMS option. I lost the CD that came with the phone which had an MMS application that comes along with it. After installing JMMS, the MMS option appeared when i set the GPRS. That being said... even if i have the CD, the JMMS might not work with WM5 as i only tried it on WM2002.

Try these links for SingTel settings:
http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=5...st&p=511615
&
http://www.trendsmobile.com/main/showsecti...amp;ParentID=97
Hope it helps.
BTW, what settings are there under your GPRS menu before you add?
jMMS is definitely not compatible with WM5 cos it've tried it already.
Only the version that's posted in this thread works.
For my MPx200-WM5, under Connections>Menu>Advanced, my Secure WAP Connection is set to Automatic, meaning it'll choose from GEE MMS or GEE WAP (GPRS) whichever is suitable for the content & connection type.
You can contact SingTel helpdesk to get the MMS settings from them & you manually type it in.
In the MMS app, under Settings (6), set the "Select network:" to MMS Connection (or whatever it is called by SingTel or yourself) & configure the SingTel MMS message center (Menu>Message center) according to the setting given to you by the helpdesk.
Make sure you select the SingTel message Center before exiting.
Try sending a MMS to a friend/relative who's able to verify with you whether they received it.
Of course, you can determine if your MMs sending is successful by looking at the status symbols of the MMS message that you have sent out in the Outbox or Sent box.

i can actually see the MMS in my Inbox but when i click to load... it fails. Anyway i tried with all, Internet, Secured WAP and WAP. They won't work.

FYI, I'm not using the default Secured WAP or WAP settings...they are actually empty on mine.
My service provider (SP) included a cab file for me to install all the settings onto the MPx200 that originally came with the MMC card.
Now, I'm using MMS Connection (setting provided by my SP) & my message center setting is provided by my SP helpdesk.
For the record, mine is StarHub from Singapore & the settings are as follows:

Name: GEE MMS (does not matter what you call it)
Message Center website: http://mms.starhubgee.com.sg:8002
WAP gateway: 10.12.1.80

Hope these information sets you in the right direction.
For what it's worth, your SP helpdesk should be able to walk you through the settings to get it working.

Also flo, the green arrow means the app is processing the message you sent.
The red corss is indicative of an error...in your case, it's a network setting error.

Is there an english guide on how to install the cab? My czech is a bit rusty ... wink.gif

Jus copy the .cab file into your MPx200 & run it from the phone itself within your file browser (eg. Motorola File Manager, Total Commander). It will install & you'll see the MMS app in the Menu list.
You'll have to configure the settings to work.
Mine works with MMS Settings.
I have already installed the correct GPRS settings from my service provider so & only need to modify (add/edit) one of the message center to reflect the correct settings.
Can call the toll-free # of your SP to get the settings.
An alternative link to the cab with MMS Home screen plugin is in youtr PM.
PS: Thanks again my friend(U know who you are) for doing the footwork of finding the file & making it available. biggrin.gif

I've discovered THIS THREAD on another forum, and I've tested... It's working!!

Check it out for yourselves, since I don't speak Czech. But it's quite easy.
Download and install ArcSoftMMSClientENGv2.CAB, configure a GPRS connection as Secure Wap Network with the settings of your network on the mobile (Start>Settings>Connections>GPRS).

Then rum MMS composer go to Settings and Message Center and make sure you enter the right settings for your network. Save all, then make a soft reset...

And, there you have it!

The Chainpus keyboard was actually IR, not bluetooth. And I don't think anyone ever got it 100% working. Your best bet would be to get the Think Outside Stowaway IR keyboard. They have Smartphone drivers available, but the site doesn't specifically list the MPx200 as being supported. I think you need to have 2003 installed for the drivers to work, and I think since the MPx200 didn't nativly or officially come with 2003, they don't have it listed. Anyone tried out the Think Outside IR with the MPx200?

This might be abit late but for the record, I'm using the Palm Wireless keyboard which is essentially a ThinkOutside rebranded KB.
It uses the Thinkoutside driver.
I ran WM2003 & now WM5 on my MPx200 & on both instances, I used the driver intended for the MPx220 downloaded from the ThinkOutside website for their wireless KB.
Worked like a charm & still a good combination for anyone wanting to use the MPx200 for meetings & notetaking.
Cheers!

*edit: problem now solved by enabling DHCP. smile.gif

Thanks to everyone who contributed with all tips and tricks here. I have now flashed my phone to WM2005, and it seems to be fast responsive. However, I have one (at least for now) problem. Activesync won't recognize it. I have reinstalled Activesync 4.1, deleted the previous phone connection and restarted both my computer and my phone several times.
The thing that really troubles me is that when I connect the phone, my computer recognizes it as a network card operating at 10mbps, and tries to aquire an ip address from it.
I'm on a 6mbit dsl connection with a static ip on my machine, so I really don't need gprs for surfing. Any tips?

From 4.0 onwards, I was told that all WM5 devices will be connected using a RNDIS network adapter driver inbuilt into the AS when you install it.
You should use the latest build from MS site.
Mine works fine.
Doesn't matter if you're on static or dynamic IP for your broadband connection...the MPx200 will use Passthrough connection to access the internet & not your GPRS unless you configured it to connect through your GPRS in Settings>Connection>Advanced.
Try connecting directly to the root USB hub & not through another external hub.
I discovered that using the latter connection affects the detection of the phone onthe USB port & connection cannot be sustained.
Hope this helps! smile.gif

any one know how to set mp3s as ring tone yet? What folder do I drop the mp3 in to have settings see it?

I'm not sure about MP3 ringtones but any supported ringtone that you want to use must be stored in '\Application Data\Sounds' folder.
I use WMA ringtones created from parts of songs using Windows Media Encoder 9(freeware).
There're 3rd party apps that you can use to set a song as ringtone but it pretty much depends on which format the song is in.
Hopes this helps!

QUOTE (AndrewSh @ Feb 7 2006, 06:27 PM) *
It's possible to use SIM Manager from 2003 if you mean this. So as resource and file manager. But they should be digitally signed. We did it already at our belarussian community forum. Speakerphone works by default. Overclock works not good for my device (my experience).

Hi...could you provide me the files for the SIM manager & Resource manager?
I'm not familiar with ROM extraction & certificate signing of the apps.
Would be great if you could provide instructions on how youdid that.
Wat did you mean by speakerphone works by default?
In call, I cannot switch to speakerphone like in WM2003.
Even if I toggle the profile, the sound only comes from the earpiece & not the speaker behind.
Would be great if you can explain & instruct accordingly.
Thanks!

Hi...I've successfully upgraded my MPx200 to WM5 for almost 2 weeks & it has been working relatively well.
Managed to install a TI-OMAP Overclocker to speed things up a little.
Now set running at 132MHz instead of 120MHz but it's not persistent...must set again after reset/restart.
I read that it is possible to upgrade from WM2003 to WM5 without using all 3 files from the 3-file package.
Anyone managed to try?
Also, I'm trying to source for executables from other WM5 SmartPhone ROM for the following:
1. SIM Tool kit
2. Speakerphone
Funny thing is that WM2003 has these inbuilt into the ROM but not WM5.
Anyone has any idea how or where to get these files?
From my investigation, speakerphone is tied in to the hardware & since the speakerphone in WM2003 worked, I assume it a matter of application-enabling the feature.
Would appreciate input from anyone.
Cheers!

Hi...anyone can comment on the upgrade wizard?
I've the version 1.20 from the WM2003 upgrade package.
The flash video by smartturk indicated using version 1.8.5.
Is it necesary?
Has anyone tried using the version 1.2 to flash to WM5?
Also, I was provided a link to download a O2_XPhoneIIm WM5 ROM which the person used to flash his MPx200.
Can anyone verify that it'll work?
Thanks! smile.gif

Hi...am really interested in trying out the WM5 for SP on my MPx200.
It came preloaded with SP2003 (build 13349).
But what I really dislike is that I can't send MMS & the jMMS software that came with the SP2002 OS is not compatible with SP003.
Thru personal investigation, I discovered that the MMs capability is integrated into the OS at root level from SP2003SE onward(refer to screenshot of Windows Explorer of MS-AS in "\Windows" folder showing MMS...).
Can someone verify that?
It'll be great if it is cos that'll be well worth the while for the flashing to WM5.
I dun care for the use of the camera cos I dun need it.
Here're some screenshots I took from the SP2003SE Emulator by MS & the Windows Explorer for MS-AS.
Pls advice.
