Happy Holidays everyone! I was curious to know if anyone is running a GPS (global positioning system) setup on their 5600.

I've been looking to get a GPS unit for a long time and now I'm shopping for a 5600 and the thought hit me why not see if the phone could do both.
I have seen some info on the net albeit not very indepth that seems to indicate the 5600 is indeed capable with the addition of a GPS receiver.

I'm hoping someone here might have a setup going or could point me in the right direction for some more precise information.

If it matters the GPS unit I've been looking at is the iQue 3600, it's a Garmin branded Palm unit that's pretty small (which is a must).

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

I have the Mapopolis GPS program running on my SMT5600, but not a receiver. I use the program for driving directions. You would need a bluetooth GPS receiver to connect to the SMT via bluetooth.

Hi smeg36. Bluetooth, didn't think of that! That should make for a cleaner setup then I would think. How do you like the Mapopolis program? Are you considering getting a receiver, could you see it working as a functional GPS option?

Thanks for your replies.

Mapopolis Review
I live by Mapopolis on all of my trips, I have the PPC version that I use on my iPAQ 6315 with my GPS Bluletooth Reciever and it works flawlessly. That reciever should work just fine with your phone, it is pretty much the same thing as the Mobile Crossing GPS unit that Sean Murphy uses with his gadgets.

Cool. Thanks for the feedback smeg36 and gryph0n! Soon as I get my phone I'm gonna try to get a GPS receiver.

Been shopping for the phone on Ebay. They've been going a little high for me up til now. Xmas rush should be over now, hopefully I can get a good bid in.

Well... I don't use headsets in the car, I have a Parrot CK-3000 hands free installed. Although, the GPS will not work over your headset due to the fact that the Audiovox doesn't support BT Standard Audio Device (this is where all sounds from the device would come through any BT Audio connection) so it will not do that (you would need a PPC). However I did notice that the speaker on the phone is plenty loud enough for you to hear prompts as long as you aren't blasting the radio at extream levels. Also like to add that the screen will time out, and go blank, but no worries because it will "wake" back up for prompts for your next step. I am sure there are ways around this without modifying the settings, but I will not get in to that here as I am still working on it, but I will post something here or somewhere once I have a solution...

*UPDATE*
I just re-read your post and I think I realize what you are asking... Yes while I have BT GPS running, I can still use my BT Hands Free flawlessly. I frequently use BT activesync and a BT headset at the sametime as well...
