Hello, I just realized why the battery cover on my smt 5600 is hard to get off. The battery is bulging on both sides. Even the battery cover has a slight bulge in it. What should I do?

A bulging battery is never a good sign. That could be a sign of a battery dangerously close to exploding or leaking. I'd get a replacement battery on ebay just to be safe.

I'll let you know how the ebay battery is when it gets here. I hope my bulging one lasts a week and doesn't explode.

No, it's not normal. But it's not uncommon either. I've had it happen a couple times. The chances the battery will actually explode are very small. It would more likely leak. But even that probably won't happen. Always better safe than sorry though. I had one bulding battery back in the MPx200 days that lasted a few months before I finally replaced it.

The new battery just came in. How do I go about charging the battery? How long do I charge it for and should I have the phone off while it's charging?

Just charge it normally with the phone plugged in to the charger. You could leave it on if you like, but it would charge faster with the phone off. Just charge it until it says it's completely full. It'll take a week or two for the battery to be completely broken in, just keep charging it whenever you get the chance.
