The attached zip file contains two CABs that will set up your T-Zones GPRS (WAP) and Proxy. Unzip the file on your PC or Phone and install the two CAB files to your phone. On your phones Internet Explorer set Connections to "Menu" > "Options" to uncheck "Auto detect "and set "Select Network" to WAP. This was tested with a WM5 phone and should work with previous WM 2002 and 2003 phones. Let me know if it works for you. Thanks

How do I install the CAB? There is no setup.exe.

Unzip the Tzones Zip on your PC. It will contain a folder that has the CAB files. They may appear as ZIPs on your PC but they are CAB files. With your phone connected to your PC use ActiveSync explorer to copy and paste the CABs to your phone. I usually put them in the TEMP folder on the phone. Disconnect the phone from the PC , use your phones file manager to find the CABs. Click on the CAB file and it will auto execute. Power your phone off on for all the setting to take affect. If you should want to remove the CAB settings just go to Settings>Remove Programs and you can remove them.

If you get the message the CABs are unsigned just proceed with the install. They won't hurt your phone.

I tried clicking on the CAB files from my phone and I get an error:
"The file tmotzones.CAB is not a valid Windows CE Setup file."

Are you trying to load the CAB on the HPiPaq or the SMT5600? The CAB is for Smartphones and not PocketPCs. However there is a PCOketPC T mobile CAB around if you need it.

You could try this CAB.  T_MobileUStPPC.zip ( 29.95K ) : 2037


Unzip on your PC and move the enclosed CAB to you PPC via ActiveSync. You can place it in your /Temp folder. Click on the CAB to execute the T-Mobile Internet setup. This works for sure with the data plan and may be worth a try for T-Zones. Also, once installed, your settings may only need a minor tweaking to get T-Zones working. If it doesn't suit you, go to Settings>System >Remove Programs and it will have a selection to remove the CAB changes.

This makes it so you can get online with a WM Smartphone through T-Mobile's T-Zones. If you have an unlocked phone on T-Mobile, you have to manuallyput the settings in to access the internet. The CABs do all that for you.

So after I do the things on page 7 the internet will automatically do pages letting me check e-mails, IM (yahoo, msn) and go on real websites?

It should. If it doesn't, the settings will just need to be tweaked a little from what is already in there. What IM program are you going to use? Agile? I'm not sure if IM works over T-Zones or not, that may be one of the things that doesn't. The Yahoo IM should work over the Yahoo WAP site though, http://wap.oa.yahoo.com.

Also, I want to use msn messenger.... I need the internet, text messaging, and a great phone... should I just get the sidekick 3 or the MDA, and with which plan set up...

I was at a T-Mo store today and the sales person I was talking to was personally carrying the SDA. When I pointed to the MDA he said the "phone" part of that device was getting lots of complaints. One man's opinion...take it for what it's worth. The MDA cost more than the SDA so I would think he'd have incentive to push me towards the MDA, yet he did not. Also, it seems he could carry any of their phones that he wants to and he had the SDA in his pocket. Not sure if that's helpful, just thought I'd throw it into the mix.

Can't help you with anything else 'cuz our one T-Mo phone is on a corporate account so I don't know the details. I just know abatis' cab file that I downloaded from this sight worked perfectly and I can access normal web sites. That's using a Motorola MPx200 - so, it does not have T-Zones on it. I just go directly to whatever web site I want. I'm sure the plan it's set up on is a high level of service plan. Sorry, can't tell you more.

I would say though, YOU need to go to a T-Mo store and get YOUR hands on these devices you're considering and go from there. I don't know how anyone can tell you what device is best for YOU since you're looking at two different animals (MDA=PPC, SideKick=?).

Since one of your choices is the SideKick, then for sure you're gonna go T-Mo. The sales guy told me today that I could get the phone I thought I wanted and if I wasn't satisfied I'd have 30 days to return it. Maybe, you could get the one you're leaning towards and if it doesn't work out - trade for the other? Just an idea. No money is wasted that way.

Thanks so much for the info. It worked well and easily on my new SDA. In fact it worked better than expected. I was only expecting the same text info as I got from the 6 dollar package but it looks like a full-blown web browser. This is good and bad. The full browser takes longer to load which is a problem in a fringe service area. Is there a way to get the more limited browser?

Also - the cab files put two new listings in my GPRS area. One is T-Mobile WAP and the other is T-Zones GPRS. The original T-Mobile GPRS is still there. What is the difference and am I supposed to choose 1 of these?

I would try the WAP first. Make sure you set your browser options to WAP. It seems like T-Mobile is using the WAP as a universal access point. Since you have all the settings you have the options to try various setups. I just received the Windows Mobile 5 developer kit. I will be doing some new CABs in the near future.

I have a unlocked mpx200 from AT&T. I have wm2005 on it and downloaded the cabs for T-mobile. Do you have to already have the t-zones plan for them to work.. I have done google searches and I see some things that suggest you can bypass signing up for the service. I can browse the net when I have the phone in the sync cradle using the usb modem..but cannot browse once it is disconnected. I have tried other GPRS settings i have seen on the web as well. Just want to know if anyone has settings for t-mobile that allow you to browse without having the service. thanks.

As I mentioned in an earlier posting, this has worked very well. Do you have any idea if it will work internationally? If I keep the T-Mobile SIM card will I still be able to access the Internet with the T-Zone plan? On the T-Mobile web page, it says that there is a charge (.015 cents per KB) for international Internet access. I do not mind paying this but wonder if the charge applies to the Total Internet plan or the T-Zone plan. I also hope I can still access my email. I might get a local SIM card for phone calls.

I think the best thing to do is dial 611 from your phone and ask a T-Mobile Rep your question. Also, please post their reply here to help others. I have found T-Mobile customer service to be responsive and prompt.

If you get a local SIM, the T-Mobile settings will not work. I can atest to that from recently traveling internationally. I had to set the local carriers data settings (if they support data on prepaid). Now if I were using my Cingular SIM (with international plan, that T-Mobile has for free, but you have to make sure you activate it), then everything worked for a price. Honestly, your best bet is to go local and just search for the data settings somewhere. Call in a "favor" if you must (it worked for me). While I was in Thailand, I was completly connected with unlimited data, and calls costing only about $0.10 per minute (US) back here to the states. It was a pretty nice deal and beat Cingulars discounted offer of $1.29 per minute calling.

Again - thank you both for your information. I called T-Mobile tech support and the customer service person said I would need to subscribe to the Total Internet package for the time I was overseas in order to access Internet or to get email. I was surprised to hear them say this was necessary in order to receive email. But my question still remains - since in effect I am currently getting total internet access while subscribing to T-Zone through your cab files, do I need to subscribe to the Total Internet Package which would be $30 extra for the month I am overseas? GrYphOn, thanks for your tips. Depending on what I find once I arrive, I might switch back and forth between SIM cards - use a local one for calling and the T-Mobile one for Internet and email access.

With the info you have you could get over there and give it a shot with the current settings. You can always call them from over there and have them flip the switch. I know one of our viewers went to the old East Block countries with her Cingular 8125 and came home to a $1200 data bill. They worked it out but that is Cingular, unlike T-Mo who is a Euro company.

I have another question about using the SDA and it might involve the .cab files. I wanted to try to use the SDA as a modem for my laptop. Following all of the manual instructions, I was able to establish a connection but no web pages would load. When I called T-Mobile, they said that the phone could not act as a modem unless I subscribed to the total Internet package.

Is this true? Is there a way that your program that allows full web access with T-Web to also help allow the phone to work as a modem?

I don't know about the Dash, but I just loaded the CAB file onto a new unlocked Cingular 3125 and it works perfectly. That makes me hopeful it'd work on the Dash too as these are both new phones.

The Dash interests me as well. So, if you try it and it works (or, doesn't) come back here and let us know your results.

You shouldn't need to run the .cab files on the Dash as it is already set up for T-Mobile and has everything designed into the ROM around using it on the T-Mobile network.

GrYphon - you are absolutely correct. I bought the Dsh yesterday and put in the SIM card from the SDA. Both email and full internet worked well. But isn't this odd? Why would anyone subscribe to the full Internet package when getting the T-M web package gives you the same service at a much lower price?

It all depends on what you use it for. If you intend on accessing anything secure over the internet you typically need the $19.99 unlimited plan. Good to see that the cheaper plans are still working for the basics. I remember years ago you could use WM devices on T-Mobile with free unlimited data until they started plugging the holes in their system that we all took advantage, then it went to the $5.99 plan, then more holes got plugged, then onto the $19.99 plan for unlimited and unrestricted internet use. At least T-Mobile will let you use your device as a modem at no extra cost on the $19.99 plan where as Cingular will not.

I am able to use both the Dash and the SDA as a modem with the T-M Web package. They do work somewhat differently as the SDA requires the *99# to be input and the Dash does it automatically.

When I called T-Mobile to ask if the Dash had similar email capabilities as SDA, they told me that the Dash email would only work if one subscribed to the Total Internet package. They also said that the SDA email was working with the Web package only because of a problem in their system that would eventually be corrected. Yet in their promotional brochure, it says unlimited email access under the Web package description.

The email system on the Dash does work the same as on the SDA except it can be pushed. Since there is no text message involved, there is no charge.

All in all, I am very happy with the Dash. It does everything th SDA does but has a usable keyboard, a bigger screen, a better navigation button system, and some additional functions. But I hope the Internet access and email functionality do not get taken away from the less expensive web package.

Being able to tether my phone to get a on the internet with my laptop is the biggest thing that I miss about T-Mobile now. There have been several times I would have liked to take advantage of that, but wouldn't dare as I don't want to pay the additional charges if I get caught.

After unzipping the Tzones.zip file to the 2 CAB files (tmotzones.CAB & tmotzones2.CAB) and AutoSyncing them to the phone Temp folder, do you clk (run) both of them before doing a power off.on sequence?

Is this process (installation) necessary to get the full features of the $5.95 TMobileWeb package on the Dash phone?

I can't answer the $5.95 question but yes, after you move the 2 cab files to your phone you must click on them (using your phone to do so) and when they're done installing soft boot (power off/on).

Has something changed? Today I was not able to access either my email or internet on Dash. I called and T-M said that because I only subscribed to T-Zone package, I should not be getting email or internet. When I explained that I was ever since I bought the phone, they said that their system occasionally scan customer accounts and makes corrections. I tired to install the cab files which is what I had to do to get this to work on SDA but even that did not bring back my email or internet access. Am I doomed to having to pay $25 more for total internet package?

I've read many similar reports over the past day. It seems T-Mobile changed something yesterday that has been causing T-Zones to not work anymore. I'm not sure if you can get it working by just changing the settings around, or if you have to upgrade your plan.

I've read the same thing over the past couple of days. I recall one person said he had success changing the pIE connection to internet instead of wap...or, something like that. I don't have this issue since our T-Mo phone is unlimited everything so I haven't tested it myself. But when I read it, I thought he was referring to opening pIE then going to the menu/options/connections/select network AND switching between internet and WAP there. I don't recall which did what...but, if you try it and it changes anything YOU can let us know. It could just be he wasn't scooped up yet in T-Mo's net. Who knows?

Now this is really weird. This morning I turned on the phone and all is working as it was 2 days ago. Email and Internet work fine.

When I first signed up for T-M service with SDA, I was told by T-M that the T-web package would get me full email capabiltites. Their description on web said the same. When I switched to Dash (and signed new 2 year contract) I continued to have full email capabilities but also had full Inet access instead of just T-web. Now T-M customer service says t-web is not intended for smart phones like SDA and Dash and I am supposed to get full Inet package. It seems to me this is a breach of contract on their part. If they want to provide me with more service than I signed up for that is their business but if they want to provide me with less service than I signed up for than I have issues.

on my gsmart i300 wm 5 3.3 i had to setup the http in proxy with the 8080 port, the wap and secure wap settings alone did not make tzones to fully work but with the http port there seemed to fix it

i belive you could setup other third party browsers that have there own proxy options?

but dont know how that effects when your connected via usb and or wifi

Will email and Internet access under the T-Zone plan change if I upgrade to WM6? I don't think it should but do not want to take the chance if it would not continue to work.

Another quirk I have noticed is that when I am overseas, I am not getting charged for data usage even though in theory I am supposed to be charged 1.5 cents/KB. This has happened on 2 different occasions. I do not know if this is related at all to getting email and Internet access on the 5.99 plan.

I know this is in the totally wrong thread, but does anyone know if this same thing can be done with a Nokia E61i, the Symbian S60 OS? I have this WM5 setup on my SDA and am thinking about upgrading to the Nokia (I was originally going to do the Dash, but I prefer the Nokia) and the sell point is if I can use T-Zones in the same way. Can anyone help? Thanks

Help, please!

I have an MPX200, unlocked, with WM5 on T-mobile with T-zones and I have tried doing the CAB files procedure. I probably screwed that up, but I don't seem to be able to remove the files.

So I manually changed the settings to those specified in post #1, but it's not working.

Having never connected using this phone, I may be doing something wrong when I attempt to connect as well. The phone is fine for voice.

I'd kind of like to repeat the procedure, but I can't remove the CAB files from the phone.

Any suggestions?

I know this is a really old post, but I have a problem I didn't see addressed in the thread. I have WM5 on a blackjack i607. I put the cab files on there, but I can't open them on the phone. They don't even display in the folder. When I use the search function it finds them but still won't allow me to open them. Anybody know how to deal with this?

It has been ages since we played with these. Anyway, did you unzip them on your PC and than move the CAB to the phone. I would just move the unzipped CAB(s) to your Temp folder and click.

Yeah, it still says "No Object" when I navigate to the folder to find the file. I'm have no idea why it isn't even displaying them as being there.

Just an update. The settings from our CAB file will still do the trick on T-mobile. Yesterday I decided to update the ROM on a Qtek 8500 (smartflip) to the much better I-Mate ROM. If you are changing ROMs on an application locked phone like I was - start here at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373229. No need to pay $39 for an unlock when you can do it your self in about 1/2 hour. I installed the CAB on new OS and set the IE - everything working great.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but thank you for this! I saw numerous threads dedicated to my specific phone (Cingular 3125) but creating the connections from scratch still provided no results. I can finally access T-Zones, yay!

Here's a question. Do I still need to install BOTH of these cabs if I just want to access the free T-zones areas (My Account/ESPN/etc.)? Just curious.

We are happy to see the CABS is still helping people. It has been so long since I made them but I think the first one adds the T-Mo gif bar. The second (2) one has the WAP settings. You could try one and see what happens and you can always remove in Settings>Remove Programs. Enjoy
